Asidfe from this and the other arguments already mentioned on this topic how about because you won't find many, if any, hosting sites (aside from your own) that will host your fic?

How about a little thing called respect, courtesy, and common decency?

If someone up and decided they could just start working on one of my old 
stories under their own name without even bothering to ask me, I would 
be PISSED.
