I really REALLY wish I hadn't missed this the first time around, because 
every review we've recieved has asked this question as well.  You're right 
about everyone respecting Louie at the end, but we had actually intended 
for this fic to take place between episode 12 and 13.  If you don't have 
them memorized yet, that means it takes place after the magical weather 
machine story and Isabel finding Lenard as her champion, but it's before 
Merrill's almost marriage to William the rich guy.  Sorry if that kind of 
threw off your perspective of the fic.

It's no problem.  I noticed it in your comments for chapter 4, but that 
response (and the ones for chapters 5 and 6) apparently haven't posted to 
FFML yet.

For me, it's, as you may have guessed, Ila.  Followed by, strangely enough, 
Melissa.  I didn't much like Genie until much later in the show -- the 
wine-carrying one, to be specific.

I still get a snicker out of who won that race.

I mainly put this line in because in the manga (or the four volumes that 
ever got released) it's implied
that Merrill might care for Louie a little more than
just a traveling buddy.

Ah, I understand.  Though... I can't really see that pairing, myself.  It 
feels like putting two jigsaw pieces that don't belong together.

Oh, and Ila's a lot weirder in the manga, also.

Well, like I mentioned, this actually takes place only about halfway 
through the series (and I apologize again for the confusion) and by my 
eye, it's not until about the last 6 or 7 episodes that everyone finally 
starts to accept and possibly respect Louie for what he's done.

Yeah, that's the confusion rearing its head again.  Sorry.

has a nicer ring to us. *shrug*

Merrill's eminently practical.  Being a hero isn't.  She should have gone 
and got gone the first time Melissa mentioned Louie being her 'hero'. ;)
