Okay, let's try this again. 24 hours after I sent the original, I
realized that I'd hit "reply" and not "reply all", so only Gary saw
it. Since I promised to make this information available to the list
at large so people could make their own decision on the matter, if
they're interested at all, and since I don't want to look like I
backed down quietly hoping no one would notice, I'm resending it.

Okay, details, now that I'm back in my mail reader.

The original posts (and yes, there are two) are here:
http://ffml.anifics.com/archives/old/ffml.2000-09.txt.gz
As it turns out, we both misremembered the posting. I had
initially announced a slowdown in the output of Drunkard's Walk
because of the contract; then, in response to a large number of
emails with questions, I posted a followup answering those
questions, which I concluded with:
> Thanks for your interest, and please buy a copy when it comes out -- I *need*
> the 39.9 cents that I get for each book sold...
which I still maintain would have been seen by practically everyone
as humor rather than a serious plea for buyers, especially since the
book was nearly three years away from reaching shelves at that point.

Not in my eyes, not based on your history. We covered this extensively
in email in 2001, Gary. I still have both sides of the exchange in my
archives.
