I spent all day yesterday on a plane from Chicago to California with a
grumpy two-year-old and an even grumpier husband. Today, I opened up my
email, figuring that at the most, I would have at least 20 more emails than
normal.
Good grief! You guys decide to explode *now*? Why you couldn't you all do
this last Thursday, when I was stuck at a garage sale with nothing to do?
I guess I better throw in my two cents while I still got a chance.
Way back in the 90s, I joined this list because it married two of my
favorite things: anime and writing. Since I was in college, I had all the
time in the world to do both. But a husband, a full-time job and a baby
later, I realized that if I wanted to become a fantasy writer, I had to
become *serious* about it. That meant that I had to lay aside fanfiction.
Don't get me wrong. I still enjoy watching anime and reading the occasional
fanfic, but my focus lies more in fantasy.
I would be ecstatic if the list opened up to more SF/Fantasy stories. I've
always considered this list to be my family home for fiction, and even
though I'm on a couple of writing crit lists, I always wanted to submit some
of my stories here because I know I would get great feedback. On the flip
side, though, I don't know if anyone would read it. In order for me to send
my stuff, the FFML will have to change *radically*.
Oh well. It definitely will be interesting to see how the FFML turns out
regardless. Maybe I'd be tempted to bring out my unfinished fics (does
anyone remember Heart/Home anymore?). It will just take a while for me to
work on them, though.
