I'm not sure using LJ software would work, given the way some people write
chapters; whenever I've posted something to my LJ, I've had to chop it into
2 or three different posts, and (at least to me) that really breaks up the
continuity and pacing I want the work to have.

I would much rather see something more like Yahoo! Groups, with an
additional web-based interface to the existing mailing list, though I
suspect doing that would prove more difficult. I don't think that a
message board format is as well-suited to the sort of discussion we
want
to see here as e-mail. (Imagine how ugly a thread with a fairly long
chapter and more than one detailed C&C would get, and then throw in
the
responses to C&C...)
There's also the LJ software which is open source and easily
customizable. It would take careful modding to keep things under
control and not eating bandwith or taxing the server, but it's an
option.
