I understand the intent behind the dialogue is not malicious, but it still
REALLY bothers me. But, that's just one person's opinion. Take it as you
will.
 

% Heck, even Irie is admitting he's only regurgitating the official 
party line, which is why he's saying it 'teasingly'.  He's not  implying 
they aren't there, it's the exact opposite. Kaori was countering it with 
'And if they keep disappearing at this rate, it will be reality 
instead.' If it's bothering you you're probably reading something that 
isn't there, or just don't like the way politics works. Actually I don't 
like it either, which was why the scene plays out that way.
