Hello,

I'm rather late on this, and for all I know, someone else could
already have pointed it out off the list. I've checked it with Gary's
comments, anyway.

Certainly, the rest of her family was reacting to this latest
escapade with their normal levels of composure (or lack of it
thereof).

(or lack thereof)

Or, alternately, "(or lack of it)" would be just as valid and have the
same meaning. It depends on the tone you want to convey.

Seconds after it had risen, it set off down the alley, moving with
a deliberate and unvarying pace towards the direction in which
Saotome Ranma surely lay.

I'm not sure, but it sounds a little odd to say "lay" about the
direction of a person who probably isn't lying down?

No, not really - you can apply that construction to anything, not just a
person; it's perhaps most common to see it applied to cities, i.e.
"Berlin lay just over the horizon", but the usage above is certainly
valid as far as that goes. What may be invalid is the positioning of the
words, i.e. having "lay" at the end of the sentence, but I'm not
sufficiently familiar with the formal rules of grammar to be certain
about that.

"So if it faces Ryouga again," Ranma speculated, "It'll be as tough
as it was when I was fightin' it, and it'll know how to reflect his
Shi-Shi Hokouden, right?"

speculated, "it'll be as tough

I think it's either Houkoudan or Hokodan, though I'm not absolutely
positive. But I'm sure the last vowel is an "a".

It would be "houkou", and yes "dan" rather than "den".

I've just noticed that "houkou" is probably yet another Ranma-series
pun. The standard translation of "Shishi Houkou Dan" is "Roaring Lion
Bullet", in which "houkou" is "roar" - but with a different kanji,
"houkou" can also have another meaning: it can mean "direction", and
appears as part of a construct meaning "no sense of direction". Which
would unquestionably be appropriate...

I haven't yet gotten around to re-reading these chapters, because I have
Issues with darkfic (which this in some sense is), but I've been
anticipating the continuation of "Relentless" for quite some time; if
and when we get to the point where the new chapters have been posted, I
intend to pick up and read through from the beginning again. (I'd just
read the new chapters, but I get the impression that there have been
rewrites of earlier parts, so why not take advantage of the excuse to
refresh my memory?) I'll probably have comments of my own to make at
that point.
