In TOS, it was Kronos, but they retconned it for TNG or the movies,
because why would an alien race with no contact between cultures
until thousands of years after the relevant time period be named

Which, you know, explains why the Romulans (and their homeworlds) are
still named after the brothers who founded Rome.
Personally, I like the claim that their name for themselves is
"Rihannsu", and "Romulans" is just what the Federation (generally their
enemies) call them, but that's apparently not official (though it's used
in a few very nice books whose titles I wish I could remember).
But this is getting rather far offtopic; I'd suggest that it be taken
private or elsewhere before the admins get *too* annoyed. I'd be annoyed
already, in their place.
