Clef's purpose was mainly to get turned to stone so that he couldn't
disclose the mission for the episode. And he's probably a secret
megalomaniac in MKR anyway. After all, he rather pushed for the idea
of
ridding the world of the Pillar, which would leave him in charge of
Cephiro... guess I needed a spoiler warning on this response, eh?

But more seriously, I thought Clef's sole purpose was to render clear
instructions into information roadblocks, render sense into nonsense,
and raise vagueness to an artform. Now that would be pretty funny.
Turning him into stone almost seems a petty form of revenge... which
could be funny, but would likely end up being a little obscure.

"What are we supposed to do again?"

"Here and there..."
"Really?"
"Kinda..."

and so on.
