Evangelion meets Thelma and Louise. I like this very much. I'm not sure 
about Rei handling a gun, but if she has enough of the memories and emotion 
she picked up from her second incarnation, and a real desire to learn the 
truth/stop 3rd Impact, I suppose it could be done.

I would definitely like to see this continued, if only to see where you take 
it.
