This is more of an idea then a challenge, but here we go.

It starts with Ranma's failure to save Akane a Jusendo. He succeeded in
killing Saffron, but unlike the manga, her eyes never opened. Ranma took
this badly. He saw it as a failure on his part.

In his mind he was not man enough, or a strong enough a martial artist to
protect the women he loved. In grief he left the Tendo dojo on an extended
training trip and forsook his manhood (he feels he is not worth of being a
man because of his failure to protect the woman he loves),  choosing to live
as a woman until he felt he was worth of being a man again.

In his travels he fought many powerful martial artist (great cameo
opportunities) and he ends up meeting a like soul. Terry Bogart. Like Ranma,
Terry is a martial artist who defeated a god and failed to protect the woman
he loves. twice.

They end up traveling as a team. In their travels they learn a lot about
each other and slowly develop a deep friendship while helping the other with
their pain.

There are two end possibilities. 1) They end up best friends and eventually
help get the other out of his funk and 2) They end up a couple.

Personally I would prefer the last one as it is much more dramatic and would
take a great writer to pull off.

I would write it, but I already have to many ideas flying through my head as
is.
