In fact all the girls reminded her of {silk : Silk}. Their
smell, their behaviors in different ways, and their
looks. She just hoped they would take her in.
"I will honor my wife's final wishes," Soun said
finally to the obvious disgust of Akane. It was hard
to tell what Nabiki and Kasumi thought of the matter.
"Welcome home, {daughter : Daughter}."

"Do you need help, {oneesama : Oneesama}?" Tarre asked from the
doorway of the kitchen.

~Mother taught this girl to cook?~ Kasumi sounded
surprised. "Okay..." Kasumi thought for a moment.
"Can you cut those {vegatables : vegetables} for me?"

"Hai, {oneesama : Oneesama}," Tarre said cheerfully and
proceeded to get to work on her assigned task. After
a moment Kasumi interrupted her.

"Hai, {oneechan : Oneechan}," Tarre asked, pausing in doing
whatever housework she was engaged in. "Do you need
something?"

"Hey, Tarre," Kasumi called out cheerily. "Am I
too late for breakfast?"

>From this, I'd guess Kasumi stayed somewhere else overnight, but nothing
earlier in the scene indicates that.

It wasn't all that surprising. Her father provided
everything he was supppsed to for Tarre and made sure
that she was taken care of, {but : except} when it came to family
business. In those cases he almost acted like she
didn't exist.

The local people were hardly surprised when Tarre
walked over to pull a lamp post out of the ground. In
fact a lot of them started making a great deal of
noise to make it easier for her to sneak up behind
him.

That was a nice twist on the normal opening sequence of Ranma 1/2. Are
lampposts Tarre's weapon of choice?

It will be interesting to see how this develops. With someone else to do
the domestic chores, Kasumi may be much more active but she will have much
less moral authority in the house. Akane has already learned a lesson
about controling her temper, so she may react differently to Ranma.
