Same thought process that ends up with him thinking
that Nodoka deserves a
wish, probably. Or Ranma, or Akane, or any of the
Nerima crew.
Actually, since the world hasn't been destroyed by
someone making that their wish, the error rate in wish
approval seems to be zero, or at least so far. Still,
spamfics are supposed to take the all-but-impossible
and make it probable or even necessary.
Actually, Hild said she would destroy the earth, just a pretty hefty
compensation would be required. I don't remember if Belldandy said in the
manga that they try not to deal with the people that would wish for the
destruction of the earth, or if I've just seen it in a number of fanfics.
And for the death thing... well, it's not permanent.
Plus, there was one
point in the manga where Belldandy almost 'died',
iirc, and then said
later that she would simply have lost her body for a
while because she was
out of the energy required to maintain it, or
something along those lines.
She said her 3-dimensional form was simply going to
disappear. There was no mention of dying or anything
like that.
Yes... her dying was simply Keiichi's impression of what was happening,
and that's what I was referring to. Then Belldandy told him that she
wouldn't have really died, just faded away for some time period.
In the chapter where Skuld appeared she and Urd
reacted when transporting through Keiichi's coffee
mug, but when they were at the beach later, Keiichi
noted that the goddesses didn't seem to be bothered by
the cold water or jellyfish. It seems that they can
protect themselves from such minor annoyances as
temperature or poison (assuming poison would even work
on them - unlikely, given their strange reactions to
ordinary substances like alcohol or cola) if they're
expecting it. If you take the mini goddess series as
canon (or at least what it says about the natures of
the goddesses) Mini-Urd takes a bath in a steaming
bowl of miso soup and enjoys herself. Regardless, the
fact that 3D forms are continually regenerated
constructs makes the whole "attacks against the form
you see" question problematic. Sure, Skuld would
initially be in pain but only until she adjusted
herself. However, it would never get that far.
Ah. You're right about that. Here's what the wish was in my story:
"I wish I had a pretty girl like you in my cooking pot every day!"
I suppose I should change that to, "I wish I had a pretty girl like you to
cook every day!", which WOULD allow her to cook Skuld, since that was part
of the wish, rather than Skuld just being stuck having to appear in the
pot at some point on each day.
Finally, even though a wish such as "I wish the world
would be destroyed" is valid, a wish such as "I wish a
goddess like you would stay with me forever" is
normally not, and such a personally binding (from the
goddess's point of view) contract can be broken.
Peorth, upon her appearance, makes it clear that she
thinks Belldandy could wiggle out of Keiichi's wish
pretty easily. Destroying the world is one thing,
inconveniencing a goddess is apparently another. ^_-
True. As I said in the author notes, though, this was more a response to
fics where the wishes were unlikely to begin with, either because of who
gets them or what is successfully wished for. It's hard to really make
any concrete guesses on how wishes work, however, since the only one we
ever see is Keiichi's. Peorth's opinion on whether Belldandy could get
out of the wish is hard to believe, since Belldandy never actually tried
to do so. The Ultimate Force could very well work on goddesses just as
much as it does on Keiichi. Maybe that's even why Belldandy loves
him--because the Ultimate Force makes her do so, in order to keep them
together as specified in Keiichi's wish.
It's really not easy to say conclusively whether she could get out of it
or not. The various points in the series where it almost seems like she
might end up having to go back to heaven could be the Ultimate Force
throwing a few hurdles at them just to bind them closer together again.
