The Legend of Zelda
Ranma 1/2
Chapter 3 - A Link to the Past

Nishii sat alone in the emptiness. Though, a light illuminated her that
strangely seemed to originate from nowhere. She quickly glanced about her
surroundings trying to figure where she was or how she got there but no
answers were to be found, Just emptiness. No floors or walls or ceilings,
just miles or vast open darkness. The only light that was evident stayed
focused on her but seemed to come from nowhere. She caught the sound of
movement, though it would normally be feint, in this confined soulless
chamber it sounded like stomping footsteps. Her head whirled around to where
the movement had originated but nothing was there. Only that's what she
thought. But then she couldn't shake the feeling that something was there;
something was...staring at her... She shouted at the hidden figure.
"Who are you! Show yourself, you coward!" Though her brave words hardly
sounded confident with the unsure shaking of her voice.
The figure shifted again only this time it wasn't heard it was more felt.
Nishii was certain this time something was lurking just at the edge of the
light. The figure began to move this time, intentionally letting its
presence be known. It came to the edge of the light just out of sight, but
close enough for it's figure to be outlined. Nishii's breath caught in her
throat, the figure was huge, and somehow familiar, though she couldn't
understand why.
"HA HA HA HA HA!" The figure began to laugh a menacing laugh, one so evil
it could chill your blood. It began to part the darkness and converge on the
light letting its features from the feet up slowly begin to take shape. He
stepped closer and closer, the light had finally reached his face and began
to uncloak his features... SHWOOOMP!

A Light flashed and Nishii was forced to shield her eyes from its
intensity.

The light began to slowly die. Wagon wheels could be heard as well as the
slow trot of several horses. Finally the light ceased and Nishii found
herself riding in a carriage pulled by two horses. To her left an older
looking man dressed in fine garbs rode next to her holding a large chest in
his lap. To her right a very young girl probably no older than six studied
the path ahead, in a carefree manner. She then glanced down at herself and
realized at that instant that her body was that of a small child too,
probably a couple of years younger than the other girl. She studied her
hands and flexed them open and closed. She knew there was something familiar
about this but she didn't know what. One of the several-armed men riding
along each side of the carriage rode up next to the older man and began to
discuss something in low tones. Nishii could tell the conversation seemed to
trouble the older man because his face seemed to darken.
"Call a company halt." The older man ordered.
"Yes sir!" The armored man acknowledged. And with that he rode out in front
of the procession. And called out. "Companieee Halt!
The wagon wheels slowly came to a stop, followed by the several armored men
on horseback. "Daddy?" The girl on Nishii's right questioned.
"Shhh, not now baby." The older man answered back.
They all just stood there patiently awaiting the inevitable. Time trickled
by agonizingly slow. -What's going on? - Nishii thought. But her thoughts
were quickly answered by several peace-shattering war cries. Out from the
surrounding woods leapt several masked figures carrying long bows and short
swords. They advanced on the procession with the fury of a hornets nest,
laying into the armed guard with deadly accuracy. The leader of the armed
guards began shouting orders out at his men.
"Stand your ground men! Regroup! Don't let them near the carriage!"
But guard upon guard slowly began to give ground to the advancing attackers
and began to drop.
"Surround the carriage!" Was the last command the leader called out before
the attackers broke through the guards defenses. One of the attackers
jumped up next to the carriage and brought his sword down at Nishii and the
other girl forcing both to jump into their seats to evade the blow. The
older man turned and kicked him from the carriage edge. And he screamed as
he fell back. Nishii stared in shock as she realized that the cry had been a
woman's. Nishii's attention was diverted back to the battle and caught sight
of another attacker. He jumped out in front of the older man and brought his
bowstring back, releasing his arrow. The older man blocked with the chest
and was pushed back as the attacker hammered his foot into the older mans
stomach. He then quickly swiped the chest and before Nishii could think to
do anything, he pulled his sword free and hit the horse, pulling the
carriage, in the butt with its broadside. The horse reared back and began to
pull the carriage with surprising momentum. Nishii doubled over the
carriages back and fell painfully to the ground. All air was knocked from
her stomach. She glanced up at the retreating carriage and saw the young
girl looking after and crying all the time. One of the attackers grabbed her
by her collar and picked her up and... SHWOOOMP!

Once again the light intensified blinding Nishii and everything faded away.

The light again, slowly died down bringing Nishii into her new environment.
She was crouched over an open chest cradling a small red jewel in her
hands, as though it was made of glass. She could tell from her figure that
she was once again herself, and was somewhat relieved. But where was she now
she wondered.
"You there! What are you doing! Who are you?" a commanding but feminine
voice called out.
Nishii whirled about and came face to face with a girl probably no older
than seventeen and for some reason felt trapped.
"I asked you who you are?"
Nishii just stood there still too paralyzed to move.
The girl began to slowly approach Nishii, and stopped a few short yards
from her. She gasped. Her eyes were locked on Nishii's forehead; the girl
seemed as though she too was unable to move. -My pendant? - Nishii wondered.
"I thought you were dead." The girl whispered almost ghostlike. "Nishii?"
Nishii froze, who was this girl and how did she know her name? Nishii
wondered. A moment of recognition flickered in Nishii's mind and then was
gone.
Nishii seemed to snap out of her paralysis and began to run towards the
window. Just as she reached it the girl called out. "NISHII!" Nishii dove
out the window and splashed into the surrounding moat. She curved up and
began accenting toward the top and just as she was about to break the
surface, she bumped her head. Her face registered shock. Her head had bumped
on the top of the water! She punched at the surface only to find it was
solid. She began to panic, and punched at the surface with renewed vigor. No
matter how hard she tried she couldn't break through. She was running out of
air and was seeping into unconsciousness. -Oh No! - Was all she could think.
She began hammering with her shoulder at the solid surface as hard as she
could. She couldn't take it; she was going to drown. She screamed.

Nishii came awake with a start. The scream still echoed in her mind. Or was
it out-loud? She didn't know. Her sheets clung tightly to her from the large
amounts of sweat that covered her tired body. She was nearly panting. -What
was that all about? -She wondered. -Three separate instances. I wonder what
each meant? Who were they? The richly garbed man, the young girl, The large
laughing man, and that girl That girl who had known my name Who was she? -
Each nightmare replayed itself in Nishiis mind and she shuddered. -Man,
What did each one mean? Why was that man laughing at me? And what was that
red jewel I was holding? - Nishii felt her heart begin to calm down and she
sighed. -It was only just a nightmare. I shouldnt put so much stock in
silly little dreams. - With that she let the matter drop.
She heard a small moan coming from the bed beside her.
"Ranma you jerk!" The person mumbled, and began thrashing at the covers.
	-Akane. - Nishii remembered.
It had been a few days since Nishii's loss of memory and she still couldn't
recall one single thing from her past. Things though, at the Tendo Dojo,
were as best as Nishii could figure, Normal. Akane seemed a little strange
to Nishii she had to admit. -The girl seemed to constantly stay angry with
the girl Ranma and for the past four days has chased her around with kettles
of steaming hot water. - Nishii thought this behavior to be a little
eccentric, but Nishii did agree with one thing, Ranma did dress awfully
revealing at times. -And where did Akane keep that mallet? - Nishii let
the question die. -No sense in questioning that right now. - She thought.
-Nibiki... Now there was a character! She spent all day keeping watch over
everything that happened, jumping at the first chance she got to make a
profit. - Still though, Nishii somehow seemed to identify with Nibiki's
personality. -Then there was Ryoga... Poor Ryoga! - Nishii, thought. -The
eternal lost boy. It had taken Ranma close to half a day to finally find
him, and Ranma swore that was quite a record timing for locating him. Three
days come and gone and still I have to hold his hand to the bathroom.
Otherwise he'd wind up in another city. He cares for Akane can tell, but
somehow Akane let her constant anger at Ranma blind her to this fact. Ryoga
seemed to have a grudging sort of repressed love for Ranma. Ryoga would
always swear he was gonna kill her but also seemed to be protective of her
in the same since. Soun and Genma... Now those two were real cards. Always
fixated in one game or another. Shogi chess checkers and even poker on
occasion. Sometimes they would even play some weird games like one called GO
FISH! And another called OLD MAID. But whatever the game, one could always
count on them to cheat their way through the entire game. And the strange
thing about those two, is when they aren't playing a game, they seem to
focus their time on getting Ranma and Akane together, Which seems very odd
in my book, I mean their both GIRLS! But who am I to judge. Then again,
whoever said this family was sane anyhow? - Nishii chuckled. -Then Kasumi...
The oldest sister and resident airhead as best as I can figure. I didn't
mean to be mean about it, but Kasumi just seems a few bricks shy a full
load. But her cooking IS incredible, thats a definite plus in my book. -
Nishii concluded. -The Amazons... Theyve made an appearance once or twice
to the Tendo Dojo, and man I had thought the Tendo family was weird. First
you have Cologne. Though, a wise old goat, she seems unmistakably one
tracked in her thoughts. Cologne was another weird one who has plans for
Ranma to marry her granddaughter. Some type of Amazon lesbian law or
somethin, I guess. Probably think men are too stupid to have a decent
relationship with. Always going around calling Ranma her Son in law, geez
what a weirdo. Then Shampoo A Strange purple-hared bimbo who can't talk
proper English and who Im not sure can keep off Ranma for less than a few
seconds. Its obvious this makes Ranma very uncomfortable but Akane never
seems to notice. She always ends up smashing, hitting, or punting Ranma and
I think its got something to do with a lesbian love triangle or somethin.
And then Mousse. Mousse is probably the sanest of the three. Though his
sanity is usually blown out the window anytime Shampoo is in his vicinity.
Which would usually conclude with him grabbing the nearest person or thing
and hugging and kissing it while calling shampoo's name. Which rules him out
for suitable conversation in the near future as far as Im concerned.
Ukyo... Ukyo is a sweetheart. She obviously is Ranma's best friend because
Ranma is usually happy to see her and often goes out of her way to see that
Ukyo is doing alright. Using excuses such as wanting something to eat or
something, to see how she is doing. Im not sure why Ranma needs excuses but
Im certain it had something to do with Akane. Ukyo is also the first to
trust me and that makes me especially fond of the fiery Okanomayaki cook.
But dont get me wrong Im not a lesbian like Akane or shampoo. The
Kuno's... One of which doesnt seem be able to stop glomping Ranma and the
other who seems to want to kill her. Which usually results in both getting
pummeled. The pervert Happosai... three times in the last two nights he has
snuck into this room trying to crawl into bed with me but each time Akane
awoke to see what he was doing and usually kicked him through the window. I
hope thats just courtesy and Akane doesnt have some perverted claim on me
or somethin. Then theres that odd girl who wears a bandanna similar to
Ryogas. She appears out of nowhere, and half the time no one seems to
notice. And for some strange reason she always seems to be wet. I wonder
what thats all about. And then the real brain teaser. Where the hell does
that Panda keep coming from?!! Is he a pet, Or a neighbor, or just one more
oddity about this deranged household? And finally Ranma herself That one
has to be the most enigmatic of the whole household. She seems to be
somewhat a tomboy half the time and then a regular girl the other half.
Though for some reason I think the regular girl thing is mostly an act.
Because for some reason every time she does it Akane gets mad. And She also
seems to be the focal point of all the chaos around here. But I kinda feel
sorry for her; it doesnt seem to be her fault. -
Nishii came back to herself and realized finally that she was in somewhat
better condition than she was a few minutes ago, though she also realized
sleep at this point was not an option. She got up and made her way for the
door stopping to slide the door open. She exited out into the hallway and
quietly returned the door back to its latch and exited down the stairs and
into the dining area. She came to the backdoor and slid it open stepping out
into brightly-lit night sky. She slid the door shut and began walking
towards the dojo. The grass was wet between her naked toes and she felt as
though the night air was cleansing her of her demons. She came to steps of
the dojo and slid the door open and silently crept in. To her surprise
someone was already there.
"Ryoga!" Nishii yelped in shock coming eye to eye with him in the dark.
"Nishii!" Ryoga answered back equally as surprised.
"What are you doing here?!" They both asked simultaneously. They both
backed up to get a better look at each other.
Well I couldnt get any sleep so I moved down to the dojo for the night.
Ryoga explained.
	Why, Whats wrong? Nishii asked.
Well, the Tendos have me sleeping in the same room as Ranma and Mr.
Saotome. And I tell you, talk about snoring, Im surprised anyone can get
any sleep in that house, sheesh.
I know what you mean. Nishii agreed. I can hear Genma straight down the
hall. She grinned
So anyway, Whyd you come down here Nishii? Ryoga asked.
Well Nishii collected her thoughts. Ryoga aside from the psychotic
tendency I had, what could you make of me before I lost my memory?
Ryoga was caught off guard by this question. Well Uh I You were strong.
Ryoga finally spoke.
Yes but could you make out anything else? Ryoga could tell Nishii was
looking for anything at all she could use to remember herself. He felt sorry
for her, and wanted to help. -But Suppose she does remember. Then what? -
Ryoga wasnt sure he liked the idea.
Nishii I dont know. You seemed pretty focused on killing me I never got a
chance to see much else. That was true enough, he thought.
Nishii sighed. Well alright then She said sounding troubled all the
while. Care for a friendly spar? Nishii asked. Ryoga seemed surprised by
this.
Well I try not to fight girls if I can keep from it. Ryoga replied.
Nishii seemed to find this humorous. So it was alright to try to kill me
earlier but now its not even okay to spar?
Hey! Ryoga seemed offended by this. You tried to kill me first!
Nishii chuckled and punched Ryoga. Hey! What the hell did ya do that for?
Well if I started it then, then Ill start it now. And Nishii punched him
again.
	Stop that! Ryoga protested.
	Fight me! Nishii challenged.
No. Ryoga replied. Nishii punched him again.
I said stop that! Ryoga repeated. Nishii punched him again.
Fight me! Ryoga was starting to get angry and Nishii seemed to smile at
this. Ryoga punched at her, but she easily caught his fist in hers.
I thought you didnt remember anything! Ryoga declared.
I dont! Nishii confirmed. It all seems to be instinct".
Ryoga thrust several punches at her, which she easily blocked.
She twisted her body and brought her leg up in a roundhouse forcing Ryoga
to duck. Ryoga caught her leg and lifted it to throw her off balance. Nishii
fell to the ground, quickly bouncing in a backward flip off the floor to
regain her footing. Royga charged her throwing a series of kicks and punches
at her face and torso. Nishii managed to block and dodge every blow offered
by Ryoga. -Shes not bad! - Ryoga thought. He brought his leg up in a high
kick and Nishii was forced to counter with both hands. He used this
opportunity to lay in a few punches to her torso and midsection. Nishii fell
back onto the Tendo floor, this time she just sat there.
OW you jerk! You hit me in the breast! God, whatd ya have to hit me there
for?! Ryogas face turned red.
Uh heh heh Im uh uh s-s-sorry. Ryoga weakly apologized. He extended
his hand out and Nishii took it. He stood her up and as she came to her
feet, she kneed Ryoga as hard as she could in the crotch.
Ahhhhhhhh! Ryoga screamed. W-W-W-What d-did y-ya do that f-for?! Ryoga
fell to the ground grabbing his crotch with both hands. Thats a little
below the belt Nishii! Ryogas voice was growing higher in pitch.
Huh Nishii snorted. Serves you right, Jerk!
Nishii turned around and stormed out of the dojo.
That was so uncute. Ryoga remarked. Huh? he suddenly realized that was
something Ranma would say.
	Somebody shoot me. Ryoga groaned.

Link the Hylian Listen to my words, the words of the Deku tree.
Link stood in a small meadow just outside of Kokiri forest, His home since
infancy. At the center of the meadow stood a gigantic tree bearing the
facial appearance of a man. Link had visited this meadow on numerous
occasions but now he felt a sense of foreboding.
Seven years have passed since your great journey and I fear your time here
amongst the Kokiri is at its end.
Links face turned to that of shock. Kokiri forest had always been his
home, And hed never thought of leaving.
Great Deku tree I do not under Link began.
Link, you are not Kokiri, Though my child, you shall always remain I have
raised you since infancy and now look upon you in new eyes. Your family is
Kokiri, your father is I, but your people are Hylians. Your place is no
longer here. Its time you began a new adventure, and as was your first, it
shall be fraught with hardship. Go now Gather your things, all that you
own. Then return here for I wish to speak further with you.
Link stood motionless for a few seconds more and then turned to leave the
meadow. He understood what the Deku tree was saying but it was almost too
hard to accept. -Leave the Kokiri? - He asked. The thought of it had never
occurred to him. Though he had to admit the differences were very apparent.
Mido, Saria, the know it all brothers, and the twins, they were all still
children, and he well he was an adult now. Nobody quite treated him the
same anymore, with his Hylian blood sticking out like a sore thumb. Though
they all loved him he was still an outsider. It was something none of them
could quite accept. Except Saria Link thought. She still treated him as one
of them, and link figured that had something to do with the friendship they
had always shared.
Link finally stopped right outside his house, and climbed the ladder up to
the door. He had to duck to keep from hitting his head on the top of the
entrance and for the first time, he actually noticed it. He felt sick at
heart; his life as he had always known it was now over.
He glanced about the place. Though he owned very little, he still possessed
more than the other Kokiri. He walked over to his chest where he stored most
of his stuff and lifted its lid. He began pulling out all his items and
readying them for his journey.
Lets see, we have Goron and Zora tunics, iron and hover boots, a fairy
bow, my trusty longshot, megaton hammer, a few bombs, a fairy ocarina, a
variety of arrows, my quiver and bomb bag, golden gauntlets, and my gold
scale
Link shut the lid of his chest and walked over to the windowsill.
Cant forget these either. Link remarked to himself as he pocketed four
empty bottles. He then walked over to the far wall where his old sword and
shield hung.
I can only fit one shield so I need to pick. Link stated disappointedly.
Hmmmm, I guess Ill go with the mirror shield! It does everything the
Hylian shield does plus it reflects light and magic spells. Link reached up
and grabbed the large shield and placed it next to him. He then grabbed the
sword and held it out in his hands.
Heh, man I wish I couldve kept the master sword. He wished aloud. But
Biggorons sword does deliver a bigger punch. He remarked. He laid the
sword next his shield.
I think Ill wear the Goron Tunic. I always liked red better anyway. Link
remarked to himself. He had worn the Kokiri tunic ever since he had gotten
back from his adventure seven years ago. Though only a little, Link found
wearing the same style and color of the Kokiri helped him fit in better.
He changed into the red tunic and tossed the green tunic in his bag, then
picked his sword and shield up and secured them on his back.
Guess its time I headed back. Link headed out the door and down the
ladder. He couldnt help but think about what life in Kokiri had been like.
His friends and family, all the moments shared the adventures hed been on.
It seemed as though this place was a part of him and now he was being asked
to let it all go. It just didnt make sense. He lowered his head. It just
isnt fair.
Link reached the entrance to the Deku trees meadow and found his Kokiri
friends were all waiting for him.
Saria stepped forward and hugged Links waist. Link, we all came to say
goodbye. Youre like family to us and were really going to miss you. Saria
remarked. Link couldnt believe how small she actually sounded. And
remember us Link, keep us in you heart, well always keep you in ours. Link
smiled at that. Saria stepped back into the group. Link looked her in the
eyes. Hed miss her most, he knew. Shed always been there for him when
there was no one else, and it made his leaving even harder.
Mido then stepped forward. Link, you and I were never really close, but
you have always been one of us, despite what Ive said in the past. And I
realize I havent exactly been the nicest of guys to you, and I just wanted
to say You know, well Sorry. And should ever you need anything, you know
where to find us. Mido then stepped back. Link hadnt expected that from
Mido, though it was a pleasant surprise, he had to admit.
Link? The twins asked. Do you really have to go? Were really gonna miss
you And we just wanted you to know weve always looked up to you.
Link looked over the rest of his Kokiri family. Each bore the look of
sorrow. A tear slid down Links cheek and without looking back he made his
way into the meadow.
Link once again came to stand before the mighty Deku tree and felt a since
of panic. This was it! He realized. This is where he was forced to leave. He
choked back his sorrow. He was strong! He could do this.
Link Hast thou done as I asked?
	Link simply nodded.
Very well. As a token of my love I offer you this A small green gem
appeared above Link and floated down into his hands.
Kokiris emerald! Link realized. But Great Deku tree why should I have
this?
Link you are the Hero of Time should evil ever arise again, it will once
again be up to you to bring peace back. For this reason I give you Kokiris
emerald. Only you shall be able to pull the Master Sword from its place of
rest. Therefore this I give. Link looked down at the gem in shock. The Deku
tree was giving this to him?
Great Deku tree, I vanquished the villain Gannondorf over seven years ago
and since peace has reigned. Why such caution? Link asked curiously.
Look kid, just take the gem okay? Ahem Yes well Uh, Let it be suffice to
say I sense evil is once again brewing. Link shook his head. Did he just
hear?.. Nah! He concluded.
I have one more issue to address, young Link. The Deku tree interrupted
Links thoughts.
Yes, Great Deku Tree? Link questioned.
An old friend has asked permission to join you.
An old friend? Link seemed confused.
A small glowing fairy flew down from where it was hidden in the Deku Trees
branches and came to hover in front of Links face.
NAVI! Link exclaimed. Navi its been forever.
Hey link. Youre all grown up again. And this time its for good too!
Navi! Link was still surprised to see her. You wish to come with me once
again?
Well its like this Link, youve always been the boy without a fairy and
well, Ive always been the fairy without a boy I think its mutually
beneficial that we stick together, you know, like old times. Link was
grinning from ear to ear.
You realize theres no real mission this time, Navi? Its pretty much just
me finding a new place to belong.
Link, it doesnt matter. Ive really missed you and our travels, so I
decided I want to become your permanent Kokiri fairy. Link was beaming.
This may be kinda fun after-all. He thought.
LINK! The Deku tree broke their reunion. Be wary, I fear evil may return
to the land of Hyrule, and should it do so, you are our only hope.
Link came back to himself. Yes, Great Deku Tree. Link assured soberly.
Now Link the Hylian, Now Navi the Fairy. Go!
With that Link, with Navi close behind, began running toward the exit of
Kokiri forest.
