Speaking of which. I was thinking Kasumi would fit in Hufflepuff?

That seems to fit her least poorly... a more interesting question might
be, "If Nabiki went to Hogwarts, would she end up in Ravenclaw or
Slytherin?"

Input desired and appreciated.

It seems like there are a few different
Ranma/Harry Potter stories being started now, which is pretty cool,
but none of them have really gotten past the beginning stages, and
this one is actually further along than the others, since the Ranma
cast has actually met the main HP cast and not just Hagrid. So I
would like to see this go further.

I need several things. A few first year students for the Ranma cast to
interact with. A bad guy, and a goal to attain.

it's possible that the Ranma cast and the friends they make would be
having an adventure in parallel with Harry, but not with him. And not
the same adventure. I have a feeling Harry is going to be dealing with
some serious stuff in book five, and I'm not that ambitious. I think
just dealing with Hogwarts, and wizards could be fun to a certain
extent.

Of course one major plot thread is going to be the fact that
Dumbledore has brought three non-wizards into the school.
One of them as a teacher.

I should mention this was inspired by the end of book four where he
sent Hagrid off to talk to the Giants, and where he said that
they had to reach out to non-wizards in order to stand up to
Voldemort.

Then I got thinking about the components of your RPG quests.

you have Wizard/Warrior/thief/hero/cleric/barbarian.

I didn't try to fill all the roles, but it works a bit like this.
Ranma is a Hero.
Kasumi is a cleric
Akane is a Barbarian
Shampoo is a Warrior/thief, depending on form.

I don't exactly like this idea...

I do of course like the idea of Ranma as a Hero (capital H), but not in
the RPG sense, but having people "professionally" be barbarians or
theives just seems wrong, particularly since both the Harry Potter
universe and the Ranma universe are mostly civilized, settled worlds,
and are not the sparsly populated places RPG worlds are, with towns and
cities being few and far between, with little or no technology.

Harry of course is the Wizard. Not that I intend to follow that
formula nessesarily, it's just one of the things that formed this
story.

Don't get too hung up on the formula that gave you the idea -- a good
story should write itself. If you know the characters well enough, and
have them clearly pictured in your head, you can simply write down the
actions their personalities dictate them doing, based on whatever has
happened to them so far. You *almost* don't need even a plot -- every
character has their own ideas of what they plan to do (especially the
villian), and as each tries to achieve their goals, they all interact
and interfere with each other (in particular, everyone good *tries* to
interfere with the villian's plans as they find out about them, though
some might unwittingly help the villian)
