Akane's age is specifically given as sixteen, in the beginning of the manga.  Most of the other Ranma characters are in the same year of school as she.  The senshi I'm not sure about, but aren't they in junior high rather than high school?  Also, I think Ami is a year younger than the other senshi.  Wasn't mention made of her having skipped a year of school?

Hitchhiker's Guide.  I'm not sure of the exact book.  I caught it when I first read the story, but did not remember the spelling of Arkleseizure.
