I can't offer any help but I have a few ideas on the subject.

Slayers or some other universe where magic is supreme would be interesting, 
just for the reactions of the machines to a place where the laws of physics 
are not only bent but shattered in highly destructive ways.

Or perhaps a Magic Knight Rayearth universe where the Magic Knights recognize 
the Terminators from the movies of their home world, and must educate the 
Cephiroites (sp??) on how to counter them.   El Hazard would be a likely 
candidate as well.

BTW do anyone have a link to that SM/Terminator thing?  It sounds interesting.
