So the FFML's closing down for a while ....
Well, it's been fun. I've still got my web site at
http://www.bcpl.net/~trmiller/ if anyone wants to bookmark it; the entire thing
is presently under construction/renovation, but that's nothing new. ^_^; I'll
also be getting a serious fanfiction page together and linked off of my home
page ... I hope. (I'll be doing a lot of writing for school as it is x.x;)
Anyway, in the hopes that this message gets out before the FFML is shut down,
here's what I have for a first part of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Mamono Hunter
Yohko crossover. I'll be trying to post one or two other things as well, those
being completed stories.
See you all on the new FFML, I hope; White Wolf, I've got faith in you. ^_^

When I first started work on this, the "trend" of writing crossovers
between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and different anime series was still
relatively recent. I had been nursing the ideas for my own such crossover even
before then, but it took some encouragement from the author of one of those
crossover fanfics before I actually got to work on putting my own idea into
electrons.
This series is broken up into three major sections. The second and third
sections will be fairly standard prose narratives, but the first part is
something completely different - something I don't think most fanfic authors
have tried before. Read on, and you'll see.
HUNTER AND SLAYER I: Pen Pals A Buffy/Yohko crossover fanfic

Summers-san,
I apologize first that my English writing is not good. This letter was
assigned by English class in school as practice in English skills. My English
should improve with this practice.
My name is Yohko Mano; I am seventeen years old, in third year of senior
high school. (This is twelfth grade; Japanese high school is grade ten to
twelve.) I am studying English, and also history, literature, math, Japanese
language (still learning kanji), and phys-ed. Outside school, I enjoy video
games and watching animation and also reading comics.
This letter is firstly introduction, but I hope to hear back from you
and to write in return. I hope we will become pen pals.
Yohko Mano
(P.S. - Please help correct my English.)

Dear Yohko,
Sorry it took so long for me to write back to you - I was kind of
surprised to actually get a letter from somebody in Japan! I thought the pen
pals program started sooner; it'll only be about two months before the school
year ends.
Anyway, I'm your pen pal (to be), Buffy Summers. I'm seventeen, and I'm
a senior (against all odds) at Sunnydale High School in Sunnydale, California,
USA. I'm taking most of the same classes you are, or their American
equivalents: English (more literature than language), social studies,
trigonometry, gym, Spanish, and world history (which for some reason is almost
all about Europe - again).
Your English is pretty good, Yohko - lots better than my Japanese, which
I haven't even thought about studying. A couple of my friends know some, but I
wouldn't trust Xander to hold a conversation in a foreign language. (He's hard
enough to understand in English sometimes!) Maybe Oz or Willow ... I really
ought to ask them.
That's all I can think of to write ... I'm busy enough that I don't have
a lot of time for hobbies like you do. Unfortunately, I can't tell you very
much about what I *do* do when I'm not in class ...
I hope to hear back from you soon.
Yours truly,
Buffy

Buffy-san,
Thank you for writing back as quickly. I'm surprised that we have so
much in common in our classes.
You wrote about friends; my best friend is Chikako Ogawa. We spend much
time together, snacking or going to places together. She wants to be in
business when she grows up, and knows lots about different people in our
school. (Chi knows about most boys I find attractive, and tells me about them.
Recently she started selling me photographs of some guys I liked, but I never
win in love.)
I would write more quickly but, grandmother has work for me to do now.
Grandmother Madoka keeps me very busy. She says much of it is training for
family duties but it is often hard, boring work. At least I'm strong.
Again, thank you for writing. I want to read from you again soon.

Dear Yohko,
I talked to Willow after I sent my last letter to you - she's my best
friend at Sunnydale, like Chikako (Chi?) is your best friend. It turns out she
does know some Japanese, but her boyfriend Oz knows more than she does (at
least a little bit). Oz is also into the cartoons you mentioned - he calls
them anime. Some friends of his at UC-Sunnydale got him interested, but he
hasn't learned much of the language.
I've been pretty busy too ... a lot of weird stuff happens in Sunnydale,
but most of it doesn't reach the official news media. Giles (the librarian
here) and his colleague Wesley keep me busy a lot, tracking these things down;
some of my friends help too, sometimes. I don't know what I can tell you about
it, though.

Had to stop writing in the middle. Where was I ... ?
We're looking forward to graduating from high school in about a month.
Hopefully no major weird stuff will interrupt; I'd like to graduate in one
piece. Of course, I'd like everyone else to graduate in one piece too.
Gotta go to school now. I'll mail this from school; we have to report on
the pen pals stuff anyway.
Yours Truly,
Buffy (don't worry about the -san stuff)
