She doesn't harass Ranma
unless she has a reason to, and she freely admits to
herself that she has no chance against Ranma as early
as volume 11 of manga. To see her trying to beat
Ranma's new seemingly invincible technique just
because
he won't let her hit him is really OOC. And if there
is a reason for her to act this way, I sure didn't see
it in your fic.
Okay, you know what? I'm getting sick of this. Half the C&C I read sometimes
is the reviwer pointing out this is wrong, and then backing it up with
evidence from the Manga. Does anyone stop to think that the writer has only
seen the Anime and is drawing their information from that?
I do. I've only ever seen the English Dub and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Does that make me any less of an Otaku? No. All it means is that I've seen a
different version, but the spirit is there.
I remember reading a fic once that had Nabiki using a computer and someone
criticized it, citing the Manga clearly showed that Ranma was set in this
time, and therefore personal computers were a no-no.
This isn't popularity contest, people. It's not about how you know the
characters, like say, Sailor Moon. One of the neatest fics I ever read ( I
wish I could remember where I read it) was a piece which had these two PR
agents wandering around Tokyo changing things. As it turned out, they each
represented a fan base. One was the Japanese version, the other from the NA
version, and both believed that their version was the one and only and the
other was a waste. By this time, both versions of the Inners, who had been
brought together by all the meddling, were working together to stop them.
The moral of the story was that each version of SM had something good to
offer and that they both were capable of standing on their own, and on their
own merits.
And what happened to the PR agents? Uranus (who was described, but not named)
showed up and punched their tickets to oblivion, because nobody likes a
closed mind.
This applies to Ranma, Sailor Moon, Slayers, or any other manga that's been
turned into an Anime. Each version has its own merits, and each *stands on
its own*. As I said, fanfic isn't about how you know the characters, (one
person's IC is another OOC. To a certain degree, there are limits.) but that
you're writing stories about the characters you love, however you know them.
So in conclusion, (assuming you're still reading this) I would like to ask
that when you write C&C, try to remember that not everyone has read the manga
and therefore not automatically knock of 10, 15, or 100 points because "its
not canon."
Thank you for your time,
Steve
