A Far Off Place-  Ranma, Akane, Ukyo and Akari all go off to attend(the

ficticious) Sapporo A&M.  What happens when the Nerima Wrecking Crew

encounters the wild and wacked out world of a liberal arts college?  Akane

starts to realize she's either a lesbian or bi-sexual.  Ukyo begins an

affair with one of her professors.  Ryoga and Akari start to question

whether they can really make their relationship work.  Ranma, meanwhile,

undergoes the most profound change as he finds himself falling in love

with a kooky, outgoing goth chick named Noriyo who's completely differnt

from anybody he's ever met.

I wrote a little something like this in the same vein, but I'll probably
never get around to finishing it. Feel free to use or abuse this however
you see fit:

May 1998:

"Tendou-san, can I see you for a moment?" Habuki-sensei asked as
the students began to filter out of his classroom.

"Hai, Sensei," Nabiki answered curiously. Habuki, her economics
teacher, was a gruff, older man. He wasn't renowned for being a quiet man,
and would usually bawl out a student in front of the entire class if he had
a problem with him or her. It wasn't like him to take a student aside for
any reason.

As the students left the classroom, Nabiki took her time putting
together her supplies, and casually approached the teacher's desk.

"Mind if I smoke?" Habuki asked. He was also one for completely
forgetting the school rules when it suited him.

Although Nabiki privately detested the smell of tobako, she shook
her head.

"What do you need, Sensei?" she asked respectively.

"You are probably my best student, Nabiki," he said casually after
lighting up and taking a long drag on a half-smoked dogend. "In fact, *no*
student has ever managed to break my curve before. I keep it inentionally
too-high so that I can get a good representation of my students' real ability."

"Why, thank-you, Sensei," Nabiki replied non-comittally. It wasn't
too good an idea to gloat in front of one's elders in case you ever needed
a favor.

"In fact," he continued, "I understand that you're quite the
entrepeneur. You sell pictures of your sister and your cousin, along with
all the gossip that goes along with them."

Nabiki did her best to suppress a grin. Sensei didn't beleive in
curses. He accepted the story floating around the school that the
red-headed pigtailed girl was actually 'Ranko Tendou'.

"It's just a little extra money," Nabiki stated bluntly. "I could
be in 'phone club', or selling certain peices of my clothing. There's quite
a market for those things lately."

"You could... you could..." Habuki-sensei chuckled at her
frankness. "But I think that a smart girl like you has better sense than
that. In fact, if I'm correct, you've already passed your entrance tests,
and are working on applications to several high-ranking universities."

Nabiki raised her eyebrows. Sensei had done her homework. She
*had* aced her entrance tests as a junior, the previous year, and had been
working her hardest to try to get acceptance and scholarship to a good
school. After all, the best schools got you the best jobs.

       "That's right," she admitted.

"And what would you like to do with such an education?"

Nabiki raised her eyebrows in surprise. She hadn't even discussed
this with her father. "Frankly, I'd like to work my way into an executive
position in a large company with a very high salary." She smirked, hoping
to catch Sensei off guard with her ambition.

"And are you aware, Nabiki, that less than five percent of the
executive postions in Tokyo are held by women?"

Nabiki nodded. "I'm certain that I can make an exception to the rule."

"I'm certain you can, if you're very lucky, and you spend your
life kissing the right asses. And I do mean *very* lucky."

It was Nabiki's turn to hide shock at Hakubi-sensei's rough
language. After a few seconds, she turned her eyes away from him. This was
always where she had been told that she should try harder for a 'woman's
job'. It infuriated her.

"The glass ceiling is very real in Japan, Nabiki. Like I said,
less than five percent of the executive positions out there are held by
women. What that doesn't take into account is that there are currently *no*
female CEO's or company presidents."

Nabiki had already shut off. She wouldn't let this kind of
language keep her from working for her goals, no matter how hard the path
or how high the--

"That's why I want you to consider this," he interrupted her
reverie, hading her a folder with an odd logo on it.

       "What's this?" she asked.

"It's an aplication and entrance tests for an American university."

       "What?"

"You talked about making an exception. I think you should use
*this* as your exception. There's still a differnce... and the percentages
would still be against you there. You would at least have a chance though,
which you wouldn't get here without the help of the kamis."

"Y...your serious, aren't you?" she asked aloud.

"It's for the 'University of Texas'. It's a very large and well
known school. It's certainly not the most prestigious, but that doesn't
mean as much there as it does here." Hakubi pulled a slip out of the
folder, and read off it. "Of the 1996 graduating class, 120 went on to form
their own businesses. Forty of those were women, Nabiki."

She stared at the figures in shock. She had never considered doing
such a thing before. It was very... It was very unlike her to take such a risk.

"What do you think?" Hakubi asked.

The higher the risk, Nabiki knew, the higher the profit.

"There's also an application there for a university scholarship.
With your scores, I'm fairly certain that you can get a full ride."

She'd make valuable contacts... She could specialize in
trans-pacific commerce. It could be--

       Nabiki made up her mind.

"Thank you, Sensei. I'm still considering my options, but I will
give this my attention."

"Good girl. Now get out of my room so I can grade these tests and
go home."

1999

The principal hummed along as he strummed his ukulele.

Principal wants revenge. Ranma has passed his tests, but is having
Kunou-family-inspired trouble getting into any universities.

Guidance counselor tells Ranma to go to US school.

"A student of your... idependant nature, Saotome-san, may find
life in a japanese univeristy difficult. Noting your progress with
applications, we'd like to reccomend that you consider an American university."

Akane has been accepted to prestigiuos U.

Ranma wants to stay and fight.

Kasumi suggests that the best way to 'get the principal', is to do really
well in the same University that nabiki is attending.

Akane agrees.

segue: Ranma sends of his apps. Gets accepted on a partial exchange
scholarship. Akane gets accepted to UT on full ride, like Nabiki.

Nabiki calls, says she's arranged housing for Ranma and Akane.

Soun is *distraught*. Genma and Nodoka want R&A to be married before they
leave. They just barely escape, and get to the airport. Narita

Akane has 8 suitcases, and 3 bags.

Ranma has 1 suitcase and his backpack.

Akane sneaks P-chan on board. He gets airsick. Ranma takes  him
into the bathroom, and asks what's wrong. Ryouga gets motion sick. Ranma
gives him a dramamine pill Akane has taken along.

14 hrs plane . 2 hrs in hawaii 10 hours plane. race to the gate in LAX. 5
hrs to DFW. 1 hour wait. 30 min to Austin.

Nabiki and Tsuuki are waiting. Tsuuki is Nabikis... Roomate. Yeah. That's
the ticket. They're not sleeping together or anything.

Nabiki: Perfect, Accented English.

Business major - minor business law.

Tsuukiko: 19 yrs old. Japanese. Perfect English.

Nabiki's 'partner'. Economics major.

Nabiki splashes Ranma in the cab, freaking out the driver.

It turns out that Nabiki and Tsuuki have procureed a 2bdroom suite in
agirls only dorm. Big rooms, but... Ranma and Akane *have* to sleep in the
same dorm room as girls.

Ranma is enrolled as a boy. Heh...

Akane: 18 yrs old. Broken english. Is let in on 'Nabi and Tsuuki'. Is
shocked, but she can live with it.

Nabiki and Tsuuki have bought Ranma a battery powered, self heating thermos
for his back pack.

Tsuuki gets upset when Akane pulls P-chan out of her backpack. Ranma's just
piseed.

Hilarity ensues.
