Dear FFML members
I call upon you looking for those who love to write to join me in an online
RPG. It's an anime romantic comedy based in a first year university setting.
All are welcome to submit characters under the guides below.
But please remember. We're looking for quality. Not quantity.
It's character driven, not combat driven.
That said. Read on.
----THE CHARACTER --------
THis is a ROMANTIC COMEDY!
Character interaction drives the story!
Please, no elder dragon son of Zeus combat gods need apply. Go play rifts
or something
FOr the rest of you....
I have decided, for sake of simplicity and allowing you to focus on
_character_, not numbers. GM's do the stat-generation.
All YOU have to do is describe your character in as much detail as
possible, including the few mandatory things I will ask for now.
You are all first-year university students at the prestigious White
Temple Academy. This massive complex educates those lucky or wealthy enough
to be selected from primary school right through to post-graduate, though
new students may enter at any level. How long you have been a student
here is up to you, as is whether or not any of your family is or has been
here. You may be studying pretty much anything, and be a member of just
about
any club. Just keep in mind the more obscure the program or club, the
fewer people will be in it with you. (and I reserve the right to vet
anything you come up with)
Assume Magic does not exist, and while technology is advanced, it
still day-to-day stuff. Faster, smaller, more powerful, but still walkmen,
gameboys, tv, portable computers, etc. No personal military hardware.
You're students, for gosh sakes, not a secret paramilitary group.
Required things include the usual : Name, Age, Gender, Appearance,
personal history, personality description, primary goals in life, program in
school, clubs you belong to, yadda-yadda.
**** However, I also want a "Melodramatic Hook". ****
This is some fact about your character I can use to tie you
into storylines, and to other characters. It should be something that
motivates or haunts your character, and whenever it comes up in the story,
your
character should have a strong emotional reaction to it.
Classic examples include: Great Loves, Secret loves (merely unspoken,
or tragically doomed or forbidden), dark secrets which could destroy your
character, personal quests (I must find my father! I must become the
greatest basketball player ever!), responsibility for another (I have
to take care of my kid brother) and such.
Here is an important note regarding character histories and
Melodramatic Hooks:
Please keep them as general as possible, so that I may more
easily tie them together. If you say "I have a romantic rivalry with Bob
Smith over the girl Jennifer Rose", both of those people are probably going
to be NPCs, and really the whole relationship will not involve the other
players at all. If you say "I have a romantic rivalry over the girl Jennifer
Rose", any other PC with a romance for an undefined girl can be tied
to that. If you say "I have a romantic rivalry over some girl", any PC
with romantic feelings for ANY girl can be tied to that. See? Neat,
isn't it. The better I can tie your characters's lives together, the more
interesting this will be for all of us.
So send us (laughlin@accessv.com and evansjt@interlog.com) a good
write up of your character (at LEAST a page) giving me as much detail
as possible (down to their favourite ice cream, if possible).
>From this, I will generate some stats, show them to you privately and
we can finalize them together.
Sounds good, ne?
- BTW: note that VILLIANS or schmucks are acceptable characters too! Where
would Ranma be without Ryoga (well, not LOST for one thing...) or Kuno or
even Kodachi or Happosai!
- BTW 2: we are looking for girls who like to play girls and guys who like
to play guys. Mind you, if you play a really good girl character, by all
means PLAY THEM! Most of us only care about the text we're talking to , not
the sex of the sender.
------- EXPECTATIONS ---------
You will post frequently!
An average post is 2-4 paragraphs and probably about 4 times a week. IT
might sound like much, but once you're in the game, you'll forget what your
fingers are doing.
----- THE SETTING ----------
White Temple Academy is the most prestigious school in the country.
(what country isn't important: assume an anime'ish Japan).
It is situated far from any major cities,
and skirts the north shore of a picturesque mountain lake. The nearest
populated area is a town to the northwest, which is separated and
concealed from the school by a ridge of hills. Viewed from across the lake,
White Temple seems to be the only touch of man's hand in the world.
The school follows the north shore of the lake in a shallow crescent
shape. It is laid out such that the levels of school and their associated
buildings progress from primary school in the east, to university in
the west. Each section is largely independent, with it's own class
buildings, dorms, staff buildings, etc. The sections are separated by a
series
of wholly symbolic arched gates, which cannot be closed. Much ceremony
is made at graduations of the advancing students passing these gates.
Each section is approximately the same size, though the later ones
harbor fewer students. This is because the later sections become more
sophisticated, including such things as research libraries, cafes,
lounges, shopping areas, and post-graduate facilities.
At the gate from high-school to university, there is a cafe called
"Swan". This cafe is so called due to it's remarkable 'patio'. In a graceful
arch, a spire of stonework stretches over the university-side courtyard
associated with the gate, culminating in a small open-air platform
with three small tables and some chairs. This preposterous construction
somehow exists, and has been declared by the student council to be theirs,
exclusively. From this vantage, they observe the comings and goings
through the gate, and in the courtyard (which is a much-used common
area).
The other major landmark is the Temple Tower. At the very
westernmost tip of the campus is the main administration building, and
rising from
this well above any other building on campus, is a tower. Topping this
tower is the surprisingly large mock-up of a greek temple, which gives the
school it's name. From this point you could see everything that happened in
the school,
and perhaps even into the town.
Other buildings include dorms of various designs and qualities
(apartment style, barracks style; mostly in the public school section), suite
style, and even some house-style. There are also various lecture halls, a
mall, a student center (which houses club offices and the newspapers), faculty
residences, a sports complex, and such.
Uniforms (standard japanese-type) are mandatory up until the end of
high school. University students have a dress-code (not a uniform:
dress-like outfits for girls. pseudo-suits for guys) when in
class or any school-oriented task (talking to the administration) but
can dress as they like on their own time.
------- the situation to date-------------
It is a fine, early September day as the new year begins at
White Temple Academy. The excited voices of students from all grade levels
creates a permeating hum, carrying with it a sense of hope for the coming
year
and joy of meeting new and old friends. At least, EAST of the University
gate. West of the gate, the hum is overpowered by rucus yelling, whoops
and laughter.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is FROSH WEEK.
The courtyard inside the gate, while huge, is somehow packed
to the walls with people. Clubs and other school organizations have set up
booths
around the perimeter. Some of the clubs and organizations have
'scouts' roaming around, and coaxing or dragging prospective members back to
the booths. There are two pick-up sports matches going on, one soccer one
rugby. Sunbathers are strewn about the grass, as are picnickers,
circles of friends, and strolling couples. Troups of rowdies, some already
rather drunk, caper around making asses of themselves in fine University
fashion. In the densest part of the crowd, a giant inflated Pegasus is being
passed from hand to hand overhead.
Above it all, the student council watched from 'Swan'.
there was quite the calamity during the first day. An 'unknown disturbance'
- more than likely drunken revellers managed to systematically bowl down
the entire row of college club booths. No charges have been laid yet. local
school newpapers are investigating.
Today is the day after. IT's early evening. 2 clubs are meeting outside on
the lawn before the annual STUDENT COUNCIL BBQ.
the Art and Design club (holding a record 350 new members) and the Kendo
club. BBQ pits are being erected.
