The beam attack I believe you're referring to, a.k.a.
Guided Shot, is an ether attack and not a normal
attack.
[Then, (if you take the Battle Dome fights into
account.) the Xenogears has any number of laser-beam
and machinegun-like beam attacks, what appear to be
Macross-style auto-targetting missiles and ether
bullets.]
Not to mention those energy wings that sprout from
it's back and can be used as weapons. In fact in the
Battle Dome fights some of it's more powerful attacks
incorporates the wings into its design.
Also if you take the battle with Deus into account
which considering when Converging Fates takes place
then it should also be noted that the Xenogears can
bust thru incalculably high energy fields as if they
weren't even there. To put it simply I highly doubt
the evangelions AT fields would work as a defense
against it. Of course that part about the evangelions
is purely conjecture however I suspect that Deus'
energy field worked in a similar fashion to the AT
field system.
