Forget the serious title, this is a spamfic through and through. I
know how many Rei fans there are out there (my favourite's Maya, for
those interested) and I know that people like Lara Benham and Jonathan
Gates think that Yui is a bitch in some ways, so for those two in
particular, I want you to read this. C&C are more than welcome.

    Contains some big spoilers.

Eva is from the twisted mind of Hideaki Anno, I've simply perfected
it, free of charge.

No animals were hurt during the making of this fic.

     An oath to the soul.

Rei stood, feeling quite confident about herself as she scratched her
chin. She should be, as no one had shaped history as she had done. There
wasnt anyone she would have handed the decision to other than who she
should call her brother, Shinji Ikari. No sooner had the thought
occurred to her than she saw something in her peripheral vision. Tilting
her head up, she saw none other than Yui Ikari walking towards her, with
a big smile on her face. Resuming her gum chewing, Rei put her baseball
cap back on and thought of how to handle the cool as a cucumber Yui.
Rei appeared as happy as Yui was, smiling and waving. Yui responded by
saying two words that Rei didnt hear properly, but was pretty sure was
hi, pal. They seemed happy to see each other, despite the surroundings
of the NERV base. Or maybe they were happy for some other reason, Rei
wasnt sure. Rei couldnt account for who else was there, or if anyone
was there at all, but she felt surprised reactions that were not her
own. Despite Yuis cheer, she seemed surprised to see Rei as well.

How about this, huh? Yui said. Rei said nothing, but swayed from side
to side as if drunk, her mouth opening and closing as she chewed gum. I
have some of the greatest archival footage in history.
Whats that supposed to mean? Rei wondered. She appeared preoccupied
with other things by the way she looked around as Yui continued.

And Rei Ayanami, back here in NERV, I cant believe it. Yui was
obviously making it out to be a big thing. AndI dont believe I
invited you but, since when does Rei Ayanami ever need an invitation
here in NERV? This was, Rei guessed Yui would be her mother, he reason
Rei was here was because of Yui, but she didnt appear to feel that way,
Yui treated Rei as if she was some sort of celebrity. Rei had no control
over her actions, she acted totally the opposite to what she would have
guessed she would have done. Then again, wasnt she light hearted with
Shinji at some point in time as well?

WellI appreciate that, Yui, I appreciate all the kind wordsbut, for
what its worth I was invited here tonight, I was, in fact, I was
invited here by our, uh, our new leader, your son, Shinji Ikari. A
surprised looked came across Yuis face, but if she was surprised, then
Rei was absolutely stunned with what she was doing. It didnt show,
though, she was as cheerful as Yui had been a minute earlier. And, uh,
I, I came here because I have, I have two, two announcements. Yui
seemed shocked with Reis actions. One being thaton one hand I did
resign from the NERV secret service, as Akagi would call, well, all of
us, but thanks to your son, I am now, I guess, Jesus to him being God.
Yui seemed like she didnt want to hear anymore and wanted it to stop,
but Rei wasnt finished yet. Andthe second announcement, is that you
appear to have a bit of a decision to make about who should pilot an Eva
should the Shito return, the choice being between the one who
effectively dealt the hardest blow to all our enemies, Asuka Langley
Sohryu, Rei held Yuis interest with what she was saying. and your
son, Shinji Ikari. And, well, you know, Im sitting at home, and I was
thinking, there is one dude that I know that made NERV famous. Rei
placed a lot of emphasis on famous as Yui still looked on, wondering
what she would say next. And, Shinji has said on more than one occasion
how the Eva is something that everybodys afraid of, and its true, but,
heck Im not afraid of it, hell, Ive done it before. In fact Im the
only pilot who, not once but twice, nearly made the ultimate sacrifice
to defeat the shito, so I figured, what the hell, since Ive done it, I
oughta be the one to pilot the Eva should the Shito return." Yuis jaw
was hanging, she never expected this. It took a while for her to be able
to talk. Rei just stood there, chewing gum, awaiting Yuis reaction.

Well you know Yui didnt have a reply to that, but she did look like
she was about to lose it. You know Rei, youve caught me a little off
guard here. But, theres no question that you are perhaps the greatest
Eva pilot of all time, theres no doubt about that. Rei listened,
taking in what Yui had to say. And you were also known as the most
resilient member of NERV of all time, without question. Yui stepped in
close to Rei. I just wonder, Rei, Yui stabbed her finger into Reis
chest, I just wonder, how resilient are you now? Rei wore an
expressionless face to Yuis, what was it, intimidation? She looked
about, then looked at Yui, and smiled. Rei turned as if to leave, then
turned back to Yui and pushed her, hard. Yui landed on her back, the
back of her head hitting the ground. She appeared to be at first
unconscious, then paralysed as she looked up at Rei. Rei looked down and
smiled.
