Subject: [FFML] [SPAM] To those who has an inkling with Genma's Daughter
We've been receiving quite a lot of mail concerning Genma's Daughter, and
it seems that most C & C has mixed views toward it.
I would like to issue a challenge to all those who has an inkling about
the fic's pacing, characterization, realism, plot, etc...
Make use of all the criticisms and comments and then construct a new,
better plotted, better characterization, and more realistic >Genma's
Daughter.
It seems that every three months or so, a new batch of challenges get
launched about everything. I have not read Genma's Daughter and all the
ruckus does not help me want to read it. While I have always intended to
collaborate with other authors about doing versions of each other's fics
(and HAVE done it), I intend to do it with their blessings and with their
permission. I certainly will not write about it simply because I am being
dared to do so.
I didn't exactly say that you *don't* ask their permission (though I really didn't say that you *do*...sorry ^_^;;;). If feel and the authors should feel not liable to have their prized possession stolen underneath their noses...please do ask their permission. If it's denied, and you have enoough virtues in yourself to respect that...then please, by all means ignore this challenge. A challenge is taken anyway by the fact that someone has the guts to dare. If by some reason it was to be ignored, then it will be Ok too. I wasn't able to, anyways.
In fact, I have a strange feeling that this challenge is skating on very
thin ice. What will this prove? Certainly the authors won't be too thrilled
about the prospect of having their prized idea stolen underneath their
noses. Frankly, who is to say which version is better, anyway? And what is
going to stop other people from taking ideas from everyone else and claiming
theirs is the better version.
The challenge is here to see if the points taken in Genma's Daughter can really make out a possible better fic, in anybody's opinion. There's no telling which is the better fic. There really can't be that much point of comparison, of course, between writing styles, grammar, and readability. I guess what I meant with a better fic is probably in consideration of C & C...if you do this and that, it could be better. I am expressing the possible POV of others in their C & C, not the whole public opinion. The true purpose of the challenge is to get people to write fanfics in whatever terms and conditions they desire...heck, to get them to write fanfics, period. But if there is no author permission, then the challenge is invalidated. But if it was considered and it was written, well...who's to say what warrm welcome awaits the author, but at least he dared. I've seen it before in literature. People making "counter literature" to a favorite piece of work...either in honor of the original author or to parody the author's work. The aim is not to make a better fic of Genma's Daughter but to make A better fic period. There could be no other Steve Pardue's and Deborah Goldsmith's Genma's Daughter <whew!>, but I want to see people who has the guts to make their *own* better Genma's Daughter. Better than what? Why, better than their last work or their best work. Who's to tell.
I don't care if your intent was to simply shame all the people who are
voicing their opinions on the subject. Maybe have them shut up for a while.
I don't care. This was simply irresponsible.
Not really. I see no harm done. I thought this was a rather valid challenge. I had no intention to shut them up. It's their right to free speech. In fact, the Genma's Daughter thing already got old up to the point of part three's release.
I'm just waiting for what the Admin have to say.
I'll just wait to have their opinion over the matter, thank you.
Good day.
Thank you. Good day to you too.
