Weird. Besides didn't she have three other sisters ? Or maybe it's
some weird Alice in Wonderland thing.

Congratulations!  You are the one-millionth person to point out Misty's
sisters.  :)

Actually, I did know about them, and I did think of them while writing
the 'fic.  But a full explanation to get around the apparent difficulty
would have been almost longer than the rest of the story, and distracting
as all hell, so I decided to quietly ignore the issue.  It seems this
was a bad call.  :)

In brief, I figure Kasumi stumbled into some kind of alternate universe
and stayed there for a while.  (You may recall Soun talking about her
"wild stories" when she got back -- because of course there are no pokemon
in the Ranmaverse.)  While she was away she was temporarily adopted by a
family in, IIRC, Cerulean City.

I pointed this out to Kyhdin, and he's actually started on a follow-up
("PokeRanma").  Gonna be interesting to see where he takes that one.
