Okay, time for me to hit a small problem that's been bugging me about this
since I polished off Next. Spoiler space and all is given for those that
haven't started the second half yet...

And this does apply since Xellos is kicking around and about, and he
doesn't really pop in till next. Well, he might be lurking in the
background of the first series, you never know with Xel....:P

"ANYWAY," Lina gritted, "Ranma and Akane here are Martial
Artists."

Zelgadis stared. "No such thing," he said flatly. "The true
martial arts have been lost for thousands of years. There's only a
few remnants like the stuff Phil uses or some of Gourry's tricks."

Not true...

Watch the fifth Slayers Next tape the Forbidden Dance, Episode #14 (They
call it 40 on the tape) amd you'll see Lina and company have run into
Martial artist before, complete with Chi Attacks.

You brought this up before and I believe the author has already decided the
joke is worth the inconsistency with a Slayers series he hasn't seen.
Besides, maybe this occurs before that encounter.

The duo is Mimi and Nene, who look very much like Shampoo and use martial
arts to fight Lina and co (succesfully, until she get's po'ed and uses a
Dragon Slave). There's also a cute Idol singing scene which rocks and all
but that really has no meaning to this...^^

Of course this is the only appeance of this in Next outside of Phil (I'm
not sure about Try) so it could be handwaved and ignored, but also be
prepared to explain why your going this way. Other might bring this up,
and (IMSO ^^) they could call you on it. Although Authors perogative can
come into play here...

Another thing that struck me as odd was Lina's reluctance to teach the
Dragon Slave. She almost seemed a bit reluctant to use the spell and all
for abit there. That's not normal for her, as she tosses it around with
impunity for the most part and has no qualms about using it to solve major
(and not so major problems). Heck, she was talked into teaching it to
Amelia in the first series, so Ranma should be able to talk her into that.

No she wasn't. Lina was not willing to teach Amelia the Dragon Slave because
she believed that Amelia would be even more irresponsible than Lina in using
it. (And might very well use it on Lina someday) By the end of the story, she'd
convinced Amelia to stick to the white stuff. (There's a title for a Slayers
fanfic: "The White Stuff")

The spells that are probably off limit's in terms of Ranma's learning are
the Ragna Blade and the Giga Slave, for obvious reasons.

I may have misread the scene wrong, but it seemed like Lina was showing a
bit of remorse at the level of desrtuction as well. I find that a bit out
of character as well, given how often she uses the spell (and how
carelessly she tosses the Dragon Slave around). I could be wrong though...

Aw heck, let Lina have a little more depth. It won't hurt anything.

Other than tht a nice fun read, keep up the good work...^^

Ja ne!!
