Quick Note: This is a new Ranma 1/2 story arc crossover that I've
been thinking about doing since the release of Resident Evil 2.
Now, with the current release of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, I've
decided that it is well past time for me to attempt it.
I am still working hard and fast on Twilight of the Dead, and I
assure you all that, even though this story does involve Zombies,
I'm am going to try my best to keep it from getting really dark.
I also plan to take this story in a totally diffrent direction than
Twilight.
That said, I will mention that the next chapter of Twilight of the
Dead will be out as soon as my prereaders are done with it, and I
have a chance to go back over it.
Ja ne!

"Is everything in place?"
"Of course. I've left no room for error."
"Unlike last time."
"Last time... Was an unfortunate accident."
"Seventeen of your men were killed."
"A minor technicality."
"So, are you sure the sample is uncontaminated this time?"
"Positive."
The small child watched from below the two adults. She gazed
up at them, her eyes full of wonder and intrigue. Her mother's
recent work interested her greatly, fanning the flames of her
curiosity.
She had slowly found herself becoming engrossed in her
mother's work when she realized that, unlike her siblings, she was
unique. She was the only one to know about Mother's 'special
work'.
Quite often, she found herself wondering why Mother had been
so adamantly opposed to her father finding out, but she never
questioned it. The stern look in her mother's eyes kept her
silent.
"Are you sure about this, though?"
The girl glanced up at the man who stood next to her mother,
looking into a smaller room behind a thick plate of plexy glass.
She then focused her attention on her mother.
"Of course I am," she replied, glancing down at her child.
"I had a long talk with my sister..."
"Ada?" the man questioned, cutting the woman short.
She nodded slowly. "Yes. She helped me to decided what I
should do. I want my daughter to share in the work we've been
doing."
"I'VE been doing," the man corrected sternly. "You've done
nothing more than help to cover up our presence here."
"Be that as it may, I want my daughter to play the important
role in an experiment like this... It could change her life for
the better."
The girl looked between the two adults again. She didn't
understand exactly what was going on, but she knew it involved
her. She was getting excited and nervous all at once.
The man nodded reluctantly. "Very well. Annette likes the
idea."
"Oh, does she?" The woman looked first at her daughter, then
at the man. "Why is that?"
"It keeps our daughter, Sherry, from being a possible
contestant for the gene-therapy process." The man frowned and
shook his head. "I really didn't want to think about that, but...
The corporation doesn't care who anyone is. As far as they're
concerned, my family is property of Umbrella."
"I knew your company was cold, but..." The woman trailed off
and shook her head. "Well, I guess you're lucky that I've
volunteered my daughter, then."
"Why exactly ARE you doing this, Yoko?"
"Because... Because I'm worried about my daughter, here."
She looked down at the small child who, at the time, looked amazed
and confused. "She has been struggling in school. She doesn't get
along with the students, especially the boys, and her grades are
falling fast..."
"And you hope this process will indeed increase her
intelligence?"
Yoko nodded. "Yes, Dr. Birkin. That is exactly it. I want
her to have the same chance as her siblings. I want her to... I
want her to do well and avoid the mistakes I've made."
Dr. Birkin looked down at the child. "You do know that this
process may not work. In fact, its effects could be devastating to
the host body."
Yoko nodded hesitantly. "I understand that, Doctor. That is
why I have chosen to hide my connection with Umbrella completely
from my family and friends... If something happens... I can't let
them know I was involved. It would devastate my husband."
Dr. Birkin looked back into the room before them, peering
through a bright, neon blue glow. "Very well... We will begin the
process in 32 hours. Annette and I need time to prepare the room."
"What about the other men?"
Dr. Birkin examined the corpses within the sealed room,
watching as they continued to twitch and convulse, the flesh of
several of the corpses visibly putrefying. "There's nothing we
can do, my dear Yoko. This base is to be destroyed."
"So... the Hospital will become the newly formed base?"
Dr. Birkin hesitated and then nodded. "Yes..."
Yoko felt her heart sink. She lowered her eyes and sighed.
"Very well."
The small child walked quickly over to her mother and
wrapped her arm around the older lady's leg. "Mommy? Can we go
home now? I miss daddy."
Yoko glanced at Birkin, who closed his eyes and nodded. She
looked back down at her daughter and smiled. "Of course, darling."
The girl extended her hands into the air and wiggled her
fingers, waiting expectantly for her mother to reach out for her.
Yoko bent over and slid her arms around her daughter,
lifting her up into her tender embrace. "Good evening, Dr.
Birkin."
"Good evening, Yoko." Dr. Birkin nodded, then added, "And,
Yoko?"
"Yes, Doctor?"
"You do realize that Umbrella may try to take physical
possession of your daughter once she has participated in the
I.C.U.S. Experiment?"
Yoko hesitated and instantly felt a flood of emotion wash
over her. Her throat grew tight, and she simply nodded before
turning toward the door. She hurried out into the dank, overcast
night....
