It's been done before, but not like this. I couldn't
resist, so I thought like, hey, what the heck?

Pigeon

***
An offer he couldn't refuse . . .
***

It'd been a good enough deal. After all, he had
gotten a new sword handle out of it. It was just
the price he had to pay . . .

***
A justice that won't be denied . . .
***

It wasn't money. The cat spirit probably didn't
have any use for money. It'd merely told him
that by keeping the new sword handle, he was,
in essence, accepting his duty as protector of the
people. There were dangers out there, lurking in
depths of the night. He needed to protect the
people from them.

***
Magic . . .
***

He didn't really have anything against this
concept. It was quite simple. If he found out
about a monster, he'd go up to it and
incapacitate it. Since his own physical prowess
probably wasn't going to be enough to get rid of
the monster (he wondered about this), he'd
invoke the incantation worked into the new
sword handle just before commencing battle.

This, the cat spirit had said, would do two
things. First, it'd give him a disguise so that
most people wouldn't recognize him. Second,
it'd give him an extra boost of strength and
speed.

***
But there's always a price to be paid. Even when
it's all for the better . . .
***

A good enough deal, yes.

If you overlooked the fact that the new sword
handle was PINK.

And that it had LITTLE PINK
TURNIP-SHAPES worked into its design.

And that he hadn't actually agreed to the 'deal.'
The cat spirit had come to him in a dream, and
lectured to him at length about his duties as the
protector of the people. There was a brief
mention about the sword handle near the end,
but that'd been all. When he'd woken up in the
morning, the new sword handle had just
replaced his old one.

And he HADN'T been able to remove it since.

Quite disturbing, it'd been. In fact, he'd
considered it so great a disgrace that he'd taken
steps to covering the handle and preventing
anyone from seeing it.

***
And Santa Claus ISN'T what's coming to
town . . .
***

And so he'd met the first monster. It'd attacked
some woman on the street as he passed, and he
had realized that this was the monster the cat
had spoken of. Without a second thought, he'd
unsheathed his sword and invoked the
incantation. There'd been what seemed to him
like a flash of light, and a second after it had
stopped, he'd landed on the ground after having
given the fatal blow.

***
It's not what he anticipated . . .
***

Several things occurred to him immediately
after the monster vanished into smoke. Number
one, he'd realized how easy getting rid of it had
been. Apparently the cat spirit had seriously
underestimated his abilities. The "extra boost of
strength and speed" had rendered his attacks
overkill. Not to mention, when he'd been slicing
into it, the monster hadn't *felt* like flesh at all.

The second thing he noticed was that his center
of gravity felt off.

That's when he made his first mistake. It'd been
inevitable, but he still felt stupid for making it.
He'd looked down at his "disguise."

Alarmingly short Western-style dress. Lots of
smooth white leg. Boots. Breasts?

The heavens had never been so cruel to a single
man . . .

"ORO!?!?"
