When I first started reading anime fanfiction, (mostly Ranma, at the time),
there was a fairly extensive guide in the RAAC archive for anime fanfiction
that had been (I beleive) compiled by one of the moderators. I'm certain
that many of you have seen it. Of course it was in no way comprehensive, or
even completely accurate, since some of the fics it described had been
revised since it was last updated. I could, however, find a fic I was
interested in and give it a read.
Since, hundreds, if not thousands of Ranma and other fics have come out on
both RAAC and the FFML. Honestly, if one has any outside life to speak of,
there is simply no way to read all of them. There's also no real way to
pick out the gems or the gem authors, if you don't already know them
without just accidentally stumbling across them.
Recently, I have started reading the Synopsis List website in earnest. It
is everything that the old description file *tried* to be. Not only can you
find the fics you are interested in, but you can get the author's ideas of
what the fics are about instead of a reviewer, who may or may not give a
negative review depending on his mood or personal tastes.
For all those authors out there who *don't* submit to the Synopsis List, I
urge you to do so. I am a reader first, and a writer second. When I see
something I like cross the synopsis list, I pick it up. Others do as well.
Using the synopsis list will get your fics the wider readership you want.
For the authors that do, I thank you. I don't think I would have stumbled
across treasures like Kenjiko's 'Girl Days', Kent's (?)'Crossed Wires' or
even Jim's 'Garden of Eva' without the list.
For the maintainers of the list, I would just like to say that you're doing
a hell of a job. Keep it up, and know that your hard work is deeply
appreciated.
For those that don't know, the Synopsis List homepage is:
