I think the ref. comes from the fact that Miyago(Sp? it's been a long time
since I;ve seen any spelling of it.) used BOTH the Katana and the wasz.
together (remember samurai carried the Dashido, {lit, the Long and the
Short, ref to the two blades.}) and founded that sword school. (he was the
first person noted for that sword school... it's unclear if others HAD used
it before.)
While it's POSSIBLE I assume, to use two katanas at once, it's HIGHLY
unlikey. (Manily becasue, like western bastard swords, they are intended
for both one and two handed use. Also, Katanas tend towards being 3 1/2'
long. {No Dachi's are 5 feet or greater.} The dual hand grip is used to
give more power for killing strokes. {Very rare for a FOR real duel to last
more than one stroke.})
I did note that in some puzzlement. (I assumed the author was thinking of
the Dashido pair, or use of twin Ninja-to/Ko Dachis {Side note, Ko Dachi's
are usually better made than Ninja-tos})
BTW, the TNMT char with twin swords, is using Ninja to's (which are
STRAGIHT, as I recall them to be... then, again, it's been a LONGGG time
since I read that.})

Katana is a traditional combat sword - some versions conflict about
whether
the 'official katana' is straight or curved - but I take the curved
version.
It is generally a two handed slicing blade, but ninjas have been known to
wield two. It's size can range from 3 to 5 feet or so.
I was wondering where you got that fact about the use of two katanas. In
all the literature I've have seen and read I've heard of no mention of
that.
I've always heard that was simply a "myth" and popularized in comics like
TMNT or other anime.
