I did enjoy this story, for a spamfic, and not because I thought
the plot made sense or the characters were IC. But, as Lurker said,
technically it was well-written. The key, I think, to my enjoyment
is that I didn't know what was going on, and continued reading in
order to find out. Had you told all up front, the story would have
been unreadable, IMO.

Allyn Yonge's post covers the deviations from Japanese culture well.
While I prefer stories that read as if actually set in Japan, I
can enjoy Ranma stories where all the characters act like Americans.
At longer length, I'd recommend more attention to Japanese norms.

A: I suppose that my anti-Akane prejudice is showing through...
   I don't like Akane.

The key to liking Akane is to read the manga (_don't_ watch the
anime!) from a female point of view. Akane is a classic identification
target for a female readership: she's insecure about her attractiveness,
despite external evidence (obvious to the readership), that she's
very cute. She has rivals who are more attractive, better cooks,
richer, etc. etc., but Ranma loves _her_ and repeatedly proves this
in ways obvious to the readership but not so obvious to Akane. Finally,
when her man acts like a baka, she can hit him without fear of retaliation.

Akane is nice and forgiving in ways that none of the other female
characters are.

4: Ranma wouldn't do something like this.
A: As far as I can see, Ranma has never really done
*anything*. Despite
his brash persona, he's basically a wimp. He never initialtes or
controls anything, instead he just reacts and accepts. He doesn't
actively seek a cure - he waits for one to blunder into him.
He doesn't
seek new styles and techniques tolearn - he waits for someone to use
some unheard-of style or technique, then gets a counter. And he does
*nothing* about his romantic problems - instead he waits for
them to go away on his own.

Ranma does do things. As you say, he reacts, but usually by making
really bad plans, often involving disguises, and which go awry in
wacky ways. Now, the sequel to your story, where this plan goes
awry in a wacky way, has the potential to be really funny.
