                                            Part 6 of Beguile.

"A battle fought together brings two people
closer."

After the speech in Armel things were going bad for the revolution
front. After two weeks of waiting the news had arrived. There was no way
to stop it, and killing civilians coming here would only make things
worse. In preparation, Jeros evacuated all living members of the front
to Remen, because everyone knew the names of their members, thanks to
Youlem.
So once the news arrived to the Teln they broke the alliance with
the Remen and waged war against the front. Since Relen was a member of
the front, they waged war on Remen. But the Remen took the news
differently, they didn't care. They wanted strong leadership, thinking
the front would be a strong leader. So began the Teln Remen war.
Everyone knew the names of most of the fronts members, and the kings
knew all the members. Even the new king of Teln, Wiren Malor. So, to
stop the fronts threat they sent a new treaty to Armel. Youlem jumped at
the opportunity to destroy the Remen and signed the treaty. As a gift he
sent food and supplies to the Teln, and sent a support garrison of over
five thousand troops.
It was about a month since Youlem gave the speech, and the front
was losing the war. All spies and members dead in Armel. Most dead in
Teln and the few alive, now in Remen. The front numbered less then a
dozen now.............
I paced back and forth, Sainmer watching me very closely. He was not
as impatient as I was, because he thought the new king wouldn't be a
king for very long. He thought that once the war was over that he would
be rule Teln again. But he was wrong, Wiren would rule now, and I think
deep down, he knew it.
Sainmer sighed and tapped his finger on the arm rest of the throne.
"How long until he's supposed to get here?"
I sighed as well and looked at the clock that was nailed onto the
wall. "I think about four hours. But these clocks are so unreliable,
they break down to easily."
Sainmer nodded and looked at the clock. "I know, but I could never
afford one. There so damn expensive, these clocks."
"Well that's not important now. Whatever Wiren wants to talk about
is more important. I wonder what he want's to say? He only said he was
coming, nothing more."
    "Yes, I wonder as well.".........
"Emy!" Called a young man running into the Remen throne room.
Emy looked at the man as he burst through the door. It was hard to
tell his features in this lack of light. The Remen castle had almost now
windows and few candles, providing many dark corners for their spies to
watch their own people. The Remen were a perfect example of why the
front was formed. The front was formed to create a peaceful world. A
place where there were no lies and where people could live together.
Emy sighed as she looked down at the map, paying little attention to
the messenger. She had to plan everything out right otherwise the front
would lose the war.
The young man sighed and tried once more to get Emy's attention.
"Madam. A report on the battle at Telmorn has come in." Emy looked up at
that comment. That battle was very important, and if the front lost it,
chances are they would lose the war. "How did the battle go?"
The man opened up a parchment in his hand and quickly looked it
over. "We lost most of our troops, but Telmorn pass is still under our
control. But we lost twice as many troops as they did. It seems that
they had over a hundred siege machines which destroyed our defense. Our
spy's have found out that the enemy army is regrouping and are going to
attack again."
Emy sighed and ripped the map in half, then threw the two pieces to
the floor. If they took Telmorn pass then they would cut off the fronts
supply lines, and hold a very strategic position to launch an attack.
"That's it, were finished. Unless Jeros's garrison complete's the
mission."............
Hours later Sainmer and I were sitting a large conference room. We
sat on one end of the table while the Teln king and three guards sat on
the other side. This left one free chair on their side and three free
chairs on our side.
The table was a rectangular shape and was finely crafted and made of
a very dark wood. The whole table took up most of the large carpeted
room.
The room was rectangular shaped as well, and was lit by twelve
torches bolted to the wall. The flickering fire caused shadows to dance
over the dark room. Even though it was still light out there were no
windows in the room as to prevent people from spying.
I looked across the room at Wiren, who was looking back at me with a
friendly look. He was quite tall and of a large build. He had short
black hair and dark, battle hardened brown eyes. He had a large beard on
his face which made him look rather rough. He didn't wear kings clothes
either, he wore heavy leather armor which covered his body. He had a
large shield on the left side of his chair and a massive sword on the
right side. Standing about 6'6 he was definitely a warrior.
His two guards were in full plate mail, painted gold. They wore
large helmets and long red capes with the national insignia on it, the
blue tear of Teln. They looked much as my personal guards did, and were
probably of the same skill.
I cleared my throat and put my right hand on my sword hilt. "So what
brings you here Wiren?" I said this in a very dominating tone, trying to
gain control of the situation. Even the smallest action can create a
lasting affect.
The man laughed a little, for him at least. "My aren't we acting
strong little man. You may talk big, but can you act big? You are a
grandmaster but you haven't fought in this war. Are you a little to old
for this now? Or are you just a coward?"
I got up on my two feet with great speed and drew my sword, pointing
it at Wiren. His three guards got up and were about to draw their swords
when Wiren stopped them. "Sit down boys, I can handle this myself."
Sainmer made no attempt to stop me in fear of being my next target.
I looked down at Wiren and frowned at him. "No one calls me a cowards.
NO ONE!"
Wiren laughed and tapped the sword. "That's what I wanted to see, a
fighter, not a politician. Looks like you still have a spark in you. I'm
not going to make a peace treaty with a decadent fool."
I was taken of guard by that. A peace treaty? We already had one.
What king of treaty could he be talking about. "What kind of treaty?"
Wiren smiled and tapped the sword again. "Can you please sheath your
sword first?"
I sighed and put the sword back in it's sheath and a sat down.
"Okay. Now may I ask what kind of treaty?"
Wiren relaxed in his chair and tossed a piece of parchment on the
table. "The treaty is for a permanent peace treaty. A treaty for
permanent trade routes. And a treaty of unification."
I looked over the parchment and smiled, this might be a good idea.
Even if I didn't know this man very well it would be nice idea. But
before I could respond I heard someone yelling, "An attack, everyone to
there posts." Then the yell was cut off.
Me, Sainmer, Wiren and the three guards got up out of our seats and
drew our swords. It was unfathomable that they could attack Elmor. It
was so deep within Armel territory that attack was almost impossible
without breaking through several lines of defense.
Sainmer looked at everyone, and it seemed he was not the only one
confused. "Why are they attacking? And how did they get here?"
I looked at Sainmer and moved into a position so I could ambush
anyone that came through the door. Everyone else then followed my lead.
"They must have heard that Wiren was here and are trying to kill two
birds with one stone. If ma and Wiren die then it will greatly weaken
out forces and throw the army into anarchy over who is ruling the
country."
Wiren tapped his fingers on the swords hilt and decided to ask, "How
exactly did they get this far?"
"Well they couldn't have attacked directly or we would have known.
And it would take significant military force to break through.
Unless..... they used the Delmor maneuver."
Sainmer looked up from the floor and looked at me in wonder. "What
the hell is the Delmorn maneuver?"
I sighed and shook my head at Sainmer. "Right, your too young to
know about that. During the wars when we liberated Teln from the Remen
their general Delmor Ren devised a maneuver which was hard to pull of
and was only used as a last resort." I paused for a slight breath and to
hear if the enemies were coming, and then continued. "They used boats to
travel all the way around the island and attack an enemy port town, like
Elmor."
Wiren nodded and pulled on his beard a little. "Yes, I remember
hearing of that move. It was so risky because of the ocean storms all
around the island. Very few ships could make it here from Remen without
falling apart. But of course the Remen have the best ship builders on
the island."
Before the conversation could continue, the door burst open and two
enemy soldiers ran in. They were quickly disposed of by me and Wiren's
blade.
But we were out numbered, three to one. But luckily the room had so
little free space that only two people could fight at a time.
Jeros, leading the soldiers, knew this and pulled them back into the
throne room, soon followed by us.
Then a battle ensued. Wiren, Sainmer and his guards fought the enemy
soldiers while I took on Jeros, who was very skilled. His body would
join the rest lying on the floor.
I deflected his blow and took a slash at him. He dodged and
counterattacked which I parried. This went on for quiet some time, a
battle without words spoken, a battle that needed ones full
concentration.
Then I landed the lucky blow, cutting of Jeros's other hand. He was
now unable to lift a sword, unable to fight back. I turned over to see
Wiren, Sainmer and one of his guards watching me. The other guard was
dead.
I looked down at the corpse of Jeros who was looking at his lost
hand. "Go ahead, kill me. You've won, the front is going to lose. Now
maybe I'll see my wife again, maybe."
I looked over at Sainmer and the others again, they bore no
expression. They looked as though they were wondering what I was going
to do next, what I was going to do to this man. I then sheathed my sword
and spat on the ground next to him. "I'll go call the medic, you will
not die until you are old. I want to see you suffer every minute of your
life. I want to see you broken, weeping for your wife. You will not get
the easy way out."
I then began to walk away from the blood bath, dragging blood on my
feet. I then remembered something and turned around to look at Wiren.
"About your treaty, I would be glad to sign it." I then left to see the
medic.
Sainmer, Wiren and the guards all followed me out. The guards faces
could not be seen behind the mask, but Wiren wore a large grin on his
face from hearing the news. While Sainmer looked a little sick, he hated
blood, but he hated his enemies more, that's why he fought.
Jeros was left to look at the floor weeping into the pile of his own
blood. He looked at his hand and then down at the pool of blood. His
life was over now, and he was about to get what he deserved. He knew he
deserved punishment for what he had done, and now he was going to get
it. He saw his reflection in the blood and knew this was him, and he had
to accept it.
So he fell over, lying in his blood, weeping. Weeping for what he
his wife, for all the things he had done, and for himself.
