Subject: [FFML] Japanese VS. American Pokemon Names in Fanfics

Althought I would ordinarily encourage the use of the Japanese names of
people, places, etc. in fanfics, in the case of Pokemon fanfics I would
advise against it because there are just too damn many of them. When you add
up the names of people, places, objects, and pokemon, you have over 300
names. It is not reasonable to expect that the majority of the audience on
the FFML know most or all of these 300+ names, nor is it reasonable to
either expect them to learn them for the mere purpose of using them instead
of the American names in fanfics, or to add a chart explaining each and
every one of these names to each fic using them.

A possible compromise for those who wish to use the Japanese names anyway
would be to use the Japanese names for people and places and retain the
American names for objects (like "pokedex" instead of "pokemon zukan",
"Super Potion" instead of "ii kizu gusuri", etc.) and for the names of the
Pokemon themselves.Phil
