"Oh, that was good." He leaned forward a little, his eyes staring
right into Ukyo's. "Now that the formalities are out of the way, we can
discuss business."
Ukyo frowned slightly. That had to be the weirdest pick-up line
she'd ever heard. "What business?"
"This restaurant, is it insured?" he asked.
"Of course it is," she replied. Now she wasn't so sure the guy was
hitting on her. Was he trying to get her to sell?
This is not the way organized crime works in Japan! The
Yakuza are usually left alone by the police if they do not hassle ordinary
citizens so they do not hassle ordinary citizens. In fact many Yakuza gangs
see it as their responsibility to help protect ordinary citizens and would
not be tolerant of a man or orginazation that commited crime like this. Most
Yakuza only bride/blackmail politicians and other upper level government and
buisness offcials. The crimes they do on the street level are prostitution
rings and loan sharking. They would never harass an ordinary store owner for
money if they did they would be considered disgraced and dishonored
That is VERY true, From what I understand, at least. Most Obyans (sp?) or head
of the clan, would turn this person in themselves... From what I have gathered,
the Yakuza, are NOT going to try the "protection" racket at ALL. (In fact I
remember a Bob barnes Fic, where Ukyo was worried that her dad would get his
Yakuza contacts to kill Ranma, and I thought about it... and no, they wouldn't
do that, NOT in Japan, not their style... They would SUPPORT him in an attempt
to get payback, but they would try to stay out of it.) At least NOT in Japan,
and not to Japanese, (Colonge, on the other hand, might be fair game to the
Yak. Ukyo would be off limits.) They try to keep the peace and crime DOWN... in
fact they are not even happy with thieves, much less con artists and other
things...
