Just in case your Gundam-Wing-hating email was actually for fanfic 
information purposes, I would suggest some further information.

Heero, at least, is a HIGHLY trained assassin and killer. Do you think 
that he can fall off cliffs and dislocate his leg, set it, and be on the 
run again without skill? He (and all the other Gundam pilots) were picked 
for their natural ability and then trained in every detail of death and 
destruction, virtually killing-machine automatons (especially in Heero and 
Trowa's case). The lack of love and affection (in fact, Heero and Trowa 
were abused instead) also contributed to their single-mindedness as far as 
being able to fight is concerned.

If you watch the entire TV series, you learn more about their inherent 
fighting abilites, and the fact that they will win, somehow, or they (all 
5) would be willing to sacrifice themselves as a last ditch effort to blow 
up as much of the enemy as they could with the Gundams' built in self-
destruct mechanisms.

In comparison, the Oz and Federation forces had not been as thoroughly 
trained (with the exception of the brilliant Noin and Zechs).

Yes, the Gundam equipment is better, but later once you see the extremely 
fast and auto-controlled Mobile Dolls, and some of the later equipment 
developed by the 5 scientists, you realize that it's not the particular 
Gundam that makes the 5 boys so powerful, it's their inherent abilities.

I would suggest watching the entire series; the early episodes are a bit 
bizarre, as are most early episodes. However, the epic saga becomes truly 
interesting especially after Wing Zero and the Mobile Dolls come into play.
