Everyone was waiting in the parlour for Ranma's decision. Each anxious, and lost in their
own thoughts. Depending on what he decided, people would become more confident, and have
more faith in themselves and everything around them, or they would continue to struggle on,
possibly even falling into despair. To imagine that the hearts and minds of an entire country, if not
the world depended on the conscience, confidence, and honour of one young sixteen year old
was almost too much to contemplate.
At that point the door from the corridor opened and the darkened figure that stood there
spoke in accented English, "Ladies and Gentlemen..."
The End, and The Beginning, of an Era.

"...I think we should call this meeting to order. If the chairperson, or assistant chairperson
is here, we can deal with the issue of my applying for membership in the Avengers," said the red,
white, and blue figure now known as Captain America. "I would recommend that we do this on a
trial basis until everyone is sure that I can work with a team of people."
Everyone was stunned into silence at that point. To the Avengers, even with the slight
Japanese accent, it was Steve Rogers's voice. For Power Pack and Spider-Girl, it was an
uncanny feeling of a legend come to life. Akane stood there looking at the person she thought
she knew, feeling the confidence and a strength of the figure somehow increasing her own.
Wolverine smiled slightly and chomped harder on his cigar. Only Nabiki started to cry.
Ranma, seeing his fiance crying, came over to her chair and knelt, "<Nabiki-chan, are you
OK, is there something I can do.>"
Nabiki shook her head, and then hugged him hard to her. "<I'm happy Ranma. Happier
than you could know. It may be hard to believe, but by accepting your destiny, you've proven
yourself the most honourable person in the world.>"
The Captain slowly put his arms around Nabiki. "<I'm not sure about that Nabiki-chan. All
I know is that you were right. Captain America is a symbol of more than just one country. I
promise you that I'll do my best to make you and everyone proud of me.>"
Nabiki pulled back, "<You've already done that. I am proud of you.>"
Akane chuckled a bit and knocked her future brother in law lightly on the shoulder. "<I
knew you'd do it. Think you can train me so that I have a chance of becoming a hero?>"
Logan frowned at that, "<Kid, you ain't got any powers, and unless you're an extremely
good martial artist, then I don't think that it's a good idea.>"
Akane turned to Wolverine, "<Hey! I'm a very good martial artist. You're talking to the
heir of the Tendo Musabetsu Kakouto Ryu.>"
"<From where I stand kid, you ain't a threat.>"
Everyone's eyes widened as a blue glow suddenly surrounded Akane, and she moved
her hands into an instinctive manoeuvre. Less than half a second later, Wolverine ended up
knocked face first into the floor, a heavy wooden mallet Akane held and that said '300 pounds'
having come down hard upon his noggin. Nabiki blinked hard. She then blinked again. *Akane
can pull wooden mallets out like one of her 'CityHunter' manga's?!? What next, a hentai prowling
around wherever we go saying, 'Forgive me, Akane-Sama!'?*
Akane goggled as she let go of the hammer, which promptly disappeared. "<Where did
that come from?>"

An hour later, everyone gathered in the Avengers boardroom, quietly discussing the
events that had occurred in the parlour. Two experimental translation devices were given to
Akane and Nabiki, allowing them to participate, and to put in their own ideas. Captain America sat
in his seat listening and not offering any explanations or ideas, preferring to listen to what
everyone else had to say.
"I still don't understand what happened," Akane said to Dr. Pym. "All I did was get angry
at Wolverine-san for saying that I couldn't fight, and the next thing I know is that he's on the floor
and I'm holding a hammer in my hand."
Dr. Pym looked over at Akane and them took out an item from one of his pockets.
"Akane, take this and concentrate on making it bigger."
Akane took hold of the toy hammer and concentrated.
"OK, no effect." As Henry said that, he took back the miniature sledgehammer and
brought Wanda into the discussion. "Do you think that she used magic, Scarlet Witch?"
Wanda shook her head no, "There wasn't any trace of mystic energy of any type. That
blue glow surrounding Akane was not something that I am familiar with, and the examinations that
I did show a lack of magic in her aura."
Wolverine winced as he touched his head, "Well, whatever it was, was hard. No smell to
it, however, and no warning about it arriving. I think I know what that glow was, but I ain't saying
until the lab can eliminate everything else. If it's what I suspect, then she'll make a good Avenger.
Providin' she can keep her temper."
Ranma perked up at that. After their earlier sparing, he could tell that Wolverine was a
martial artist. If he had suspicions, then it was probably something that had to do with the Art, and
if that was the case..."<Wolverine-san, do you think that Akane-chan can..>"
"<You got it. If she is at or above the level of a Master in the Art, it's a strong possibility
that she can manipulate the stuff. I've never seen anyone actually do it, so I don't know, but it is
possible.>"
"Ranma-kun, Are you thinking that I can do that? Only legends say that it can become
visible." Akane gasped, eyes wide at hearing what they were saying and instantly grasping what
they were talking about.
Nabiki shook her head, "Why not, Akane-chan? You have people standing around you
with all sorts of powers and abilities. Thor-sama is supposed to be a God. Iron Man is known as
Tony Stark's body guard, the Scarlet Witch can cast spells, the Spider-people can stick on walls,
and who knows what abilities these kids have. I think it's very possible."
Dr. Pym winced, thinking that perhaps they should have gotten a translation unit for
Captain America as well. Listening to half a conversation was pushing his curiosity up. "What are
your four talking about?"
Nabiki answered, "Chi and Ki manipulation. Using the power of ones spirit in order to do
things such as fight, heal, or even fly. Most of the time, it's used in Asian medicine to determine
how well a person is and manipulating the Chi correctly allows one to lessen pain, speed healing,
or pass strength from one person to another. Using Chi, the Fakir's are able to be buried alive for
days or weeks at a time, and there are Tibetan legends of being able to levitate. In legends, a
master martial artist would be able to manipulate it to the visible level for such things as blasts of
energy or fire. They would be able to increase their speed, become invisible to ordinary eyes, and
even battle with blades of pure force. If Akane has that ability, then she is at the bare minimum a
fighter of an amazing degree."
Ranma continued, "It also means that she could potentially duplicate all of our abilities
with enough practice and concentration. The only problem is that she would exhaust herself very
fast. Imagine her as a battery. If she has only accessed that ability today, then it will take a while
before we can bring it to the level that she will be able to do this anytime she wants to. After that,
it's training her to 'hold' a charge. Currently, she is at a different level of development in her
achievement of the art than I am, so she is both better and worse than I am."
Akane smiled at the compliment, "It also means that I need someone who can train me in
the various arts, and train me in other abilities. The only other high level practitioner of the
Musabetsu Kakouto Ryu are Ranma and our fathers."
Henry nodded. He had to put all of those blood and genetic samples through a lot of
tests. If this type of ability was able to be passed on genetically would be more believable than a
person gaining such abilities simply by training. However, if what the four of them were talking
about was correct, then there was a lot of hidden potential in this young girl. "Akane, I think we
should begin testing you as soon as we can."
Akane smiled, and nodded towards the scientist. While they hadn't offered her a position
yet, due to something unexpected she had a chance to join the premiere group of heroes on the
planet. "Of course, Sensei. I would be honoured to train and practice with your group, and to do
the best I can to enlarge your knowledge."
While Dr. Pym smiled and was congratulating himself on getting a new subject for
information, the only indication of what Ranma felt was the slight opening of his left eye. He
already had enough exposure to Akane to deduce what she wanted, and he wasn't sure that it
was the wisest move. When uncle Tendo found out about this, there would be hell to pay for
endangering his daughter.
TWO DAYS LATER...
Ranma groaned silently to himself as he woke up, pain in almost every muscle. If there
was one thing he had learned from Wolverine-Sensei, it was that he was not in the best of shape,
at least not for the heroics that were expected from him. *I wonder if I can duck out of practice
today, or at least take a long break. Eight to ten hours of non-stop fighting is getting to me.*
"Well, at least Nabiki is enjoying herself," he muttered quietly to himself as he began his
morning absolutions. "Whatever it is she's doing, I hope nothing happens. She isn't a fighter."
Sighing to himself as he began a hot shower, his mind wandered back to the previous day
