The food thing was created (I believe -- I could be wrong) by Mike
Loader in his hilarious fic, The Nameless Saga. I *think* that was the
first instance of Akane's food coming to life in a fic.

Opinions vary. As far as I know, the Akane=Dr. Frankenstein+Frugal Gourmet
cliche began either with Nameless or Nigel M.'s fanfic Eight Days A Week.
The two were released around the same time, and it's uncertain which came
first - in fact, I wasn't aware of 8DAW's existance until almost a year
later, so it's likely that the idea was independantly developed by both of
us.

Regardless of who developed the idea of having Akane's
food come to life, you have to admit it's darn funny
in 'The Varaiyah Cycle: It's Always Tea Time in Nerima!'
because it's just the sort of thing that Akane *might* do
if she had been desperate enought to cook a good meal.
It may not be canon, but it works because Mike took the
character and her personality and looked at the possibilities
of what *could* happen given a situation.

The down side to this is that because there is no real
resolution to the main story, the characters do not have
a chance to evolve beyond their printed limits. It is
up to you to extrapolate what could happen, and provide
good impetus or reasoning for *why* it happened.

So, back to the main problem: Maybe we don't know how
the Tendo(u) family makes their living. So what?
Does that destroy your liking for the show? And if
one person says one thing, and another person says
another, does it make either of them wrong?
Hell, no! It just means one person thinks one
think and another thinks the opposite. In terms
of relativity, both authors are right, because
no one knows the real answer.

P.S. And yes, damnit, I'm using the full name of
'The Nameless Saga' because *I'm* the one who suggested
the subtitle! Does it ever get credited that way?
Nooooo!

P.P.S. Not that I'm bitter or anything. :)
