No, crying the name of an attack is not neccessary. Ranma does not
always cry out attack names when he uses them (Example - watch the
second Ranma movie.) Cologne and Happosai only uses attack cries when
their gloating.

The pourpose of screaming out the name of the attack, from what I can
tell, is as a concentration trick. These special attacks require the
user to martial energies - either internal or external - to perform.
Useing an attack cry seems to be a method for focusing that energy
faster.

Or, of course, I could be completly wrong, and they just do it to sound
cool... ^^;;;

Okay, people, when thinking of calling out attack names, think about
real life martial artists and the tendancy to yell out "hiya!" or
what-not; it's done for the same reason which was pointed out above (I
think).
I don't hope to end this thread, but still, it's getting a little onto
me.

"Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Fool! Pain is my friend. Allow me to introduce YOU to
it!" --Inferno, Beast Wars
"Decepticons FOREVER!!" --Ravage, former Decepticon
"Your persistence is futile! I rise again!" --Rampage
"[Rampage] may be ugly, but he's a PREDACON!" --Quickstrike
