I really wasn't expecting what I found in my mailbox this morning. I
don't usually read spam and responces to threads, but something told
me to do it today.
I read Lurker's MST... and damn near choked laughing. Yes, it was
harsh, and yes, it could have been insulting in places, but he didn't
say a thing that probably wasn't true. It was detailed, and it *did*
give out good grammatical points as well as riff it.
I would love to get that kind of C&C.
Actally, I think most writers would. It not only makes you laugh, but
it makes you *think*. Even just a couple of sentences would do for
most people. *AnYtHiNg* is good; it lets us know that we're not
wasting our time putting stuff up to the list. Personally, if I write
something that sucks, I want to know about it so that I can improve
upon myself. Not everybody is going to like what you write; for every
person who loves it, there is another person who *hates* it. and
that's normal. You can't please all of the people all of the time.
To be honest, writers shouldn't give a rat's ass if anyone *does* like
their stories or not, for I've found that the best stories (and the
*worst*) come from those who write to please themselves and damn the
rest. Unfortunately, we're human, and that means we have egos. I like
to have my ego stroked every once in a while; who doesn't? But writers
have gotta keep from being so thin-skinned that the slightest pinprick
deflates them into nothing. (And from being so thick-skinned that
their egos swells up to the size of Australia, either =^_~= )
I like C&C. I'll blatantly admit it. But I like the occasional
negative review, too; it keeps me to the ground and continuously
working to improve myself. (Of course, sometimes I have to whine to
people when I get *too* low - ya'll know who you are =^_^= )
The point is, AUTHORS WANT C&C. We want it desperately. That's why
we're on this list; r.a.a.c is for finished works only (I think), so
who else are we going to turn to? And why else are there so many
subscribers to the FFML if they're not here to read what we write?
Private replys are great; so are public ones. Or are we so afraid of
mailbombs and flames that we can't speak our minds anymore?
I'm getting off this soapbox now and burning it. That's my two cents;
anyone else have some spare change to toss out here?
Jess, the LilTigre (who's not afrid of giving OR recieving harsh C&C)
