Chapter 6
Dark Legions and Secret Agendas

An EDF Production

Written by Helix and Rune

"The incident reffered to as Third Impact by Commander Ikari remains scetchy
at best, but several facts are known. The first is the forcable dissolution
of the former UN council by the First and Second Children, Shinji Ikari and
Asuka Soryuu. This was brought about due to the presence of many of the
renegade SEELE members persences, including the traitor Keele. The second
was the deaths of the majority of the NERV command staff, including Gendou
Ikari..."

Third Impact Report before the UN council, first section.

Ryan sat back in the silver light of the entry plug, watching as the LCL
began to fill the tank. He had to admit that it was not so bad now, having
been exposed to this type of treament before, but the rapidly filling tank
was making him feel slightly claustrophobic.

Ryan opened his eyes as a voice cracked over the communicator. "Hows it
going in there little brother?" Sam asked, an almost visible smile
communicating itself across the connection. "Getting scared?"

"Not on your life big brother." Ryan replied, smiling at the fact that he
could talk in the LCL. "Im as ready as I'll ever be."

"There is no ready for this one Ryan." Sam replied, and clicked off the
comm.

Ryan shook his head in amusement, and experimentally pulled back on one of
the control bars in the chair. When nothing happened, he flipped the
intercom switch to the engineering crew. "How come nothings happening?
I've tried half a dozen controls and this thing won't budge."

A viewscreen flashed on, and Sarah Minka appeared. "My, arn't we anxious to
get started? Well Ryan, you haven't even been connected to the Eva yet, so
don't expect to get any type of response from it for another few minuites.
We're checking the last of the connections and restraints, so you'll be
ready soon."

Ryan nodded, and sat back his seat.

...

"Commander Ikari."

"Yes, what is it?" Shinji Ikari looked up from his command desk to the
rating that had stopped before it, carrying a printout from the radar
section. The red label indicated the urgent status of the communication.

The rating cleared his throat, and pulled out a white labeled report in
addition to the red one. He set both reports on the desk before Shinji.
"We have two reports sir. One is that the cadets are about to proceed with
their activation tests. The other is that we are picking up type nine radar
targets."

Shinji picked up both reports, glancing over the red label before openeing
the white labeled document. "Type nine? Are you positive?"

"Yes sir. Shall we stop the activations, and begin prepping pilots for
launch?" The rating waited as Shinji scanned over the activation test
reports. He stopped over several profiles, and after a moment responded.

"Begin scrambling the squadrons, but continue with the activation tests.
This could be of some use to us."

...

"So Ryan, are you ready?" Sara looked over towards Ryan, tapping the
control panel in front of her. "I'll understand if you want to back down
now."

Ryan gave a short, nervous chuckle. "Im as ready as I'll ever be. If I
don't do this now, I'm not sure I'll be able to do it again." He clenched
and unclenched his hands around the controls of the Eva. "So lets get
going."

Sara smiled reassuringly. "Very well then, let us begin. Activate primary
nerve connections."

Ryan felt the world... change. For a moment, his eyes went hazy, as if
someone had splashed a large amount of water in his eyes, or the LCL had
suddenly become clouded. A feeling on pins and needles crawled all over his
skin, and just when he thought he would scream from the feeling, it stopped.
Everything stopped. And then, the world crashed in around him.

Ryan realized he could see the outside again, that the walls of the entry
plug had become transparent and were offering him a view of everything in
front of him. But there was another, overlaid sense with that view, as if
his vision had become over ten times as sensitive. He could read the
lettering on Sara's jacket with reletive ease, and the cavern that the
Evangelions sat in seemed to shrink in proportion.

And sound washed over him in a tidal wave, threatening to drown him. But
when it nearly became unbearable, it was reduced to a lower level.
Viewscreens appeared around him, floating in the LCL, all of them in
diffrent languages. One, displaying the life suport systems, was in
English.

"Reconfigure the language module for English." Ryan sighed in relief as the
view screens reconfigured themselves, all of them displaying english script.
He head Sara contining. "Prepare for contact in three... two... one..."

Ryan screamed. And the world exploded around him.

...

"Contacts are approaching at fast speed. Profiles are being fed into the
computers now." The control room was a rush of activity as the genral
quarters alarm was sounded, with ratings and techs rushing to their
stations. Shinji and Asuka were standing at the command nexus of the room,
watching as the radar blips approached the base.

A smiled crossed Asuka Ikari's face as she watched the radar display.
"Sassy bastards, attacking us directly. Their not angels, are they Shinji?"

Shinji shook his head, throwing off the few memories that surfaced with his
suspicion. "No, not in the way we are used to them. We only have one or
two pilots who have actually fought this enemy."

One of the comm techs cupped his hand to his earpiece, listening to the
report from the scanner station. "Sir, the profiles are confirmed. Six
Dark Legion Evas, approaching at high speed."

"Begin preperations for launches. Proceed with best speed." Shinji glanced
at Asuka, but her face was completely expressionless. Shaking his head, he
turned away just in time to miss her rubbing her upper arm in an unconcious
reflex. Suddenly, another alarm went off.

"Sir, we have a report from the contact tests..."

...

"WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING???" Sam screamed, watching as waves of LCL
broke against the docks. Several of the vital sign monitors had suddenly
gone wild, and then half of those had gone dead. Even though most of the
cadets had successfully contacted their Evas, there were twelve who had
encountered some type of problem. And one of those 'problems' was Ryan.

"Sir, this is considered normal. The active Evas are experiencing
heightened syncronization reactions, which is causing this eratic behavior."
The rating glanced over each of the control panels, shaking her head when
she glanced at one of the flatlines.

"NORMAL??? THIS IS _NORMAL_???" Sam bellowed, almost incoherent. One of
his arms was flung towards the Evas, who were thrashing against the massive
restraints. One of them, Evangelion unit 21, threw its head back and let
loose a primal roar of fury. "Look at those things! They look like wild
animals, monsters!"

"Sir, if you would please calm down, we will take care of this situation."
The rating gestured for several of her companions to do something about the
raving Eva pilot, but all of them stopped short when a green light flashed,
indicating a lift was about to arrive.

"Calm down??? Are you aware of who is on board of those Evas?"

"Yes, Sam, I am." A low voice replied from behind him. Sam spun around,
suddenly going pale.

"Commander Ikari!?!"

...

Over a mile above the EDF compound, twelve dark shapes came to an abrupt
stop. They circled on dark wings for a moment, before beginning their
silent decent.

...

"Sam, are you aware that there are twelve Dark Legion Evas decending on us
at this very second?" Shinji whispered, looked at the monitors for the
cadets. His faced hardened even more as he turned back to look at Sam.

"Your kidding me. Why hasn't the alert been sounded?" Sam replied in a low
tone, casting his eyes around the room. Just as he laid his gaze upon the
general quarters alert upon one of the viewscreens, the sound obscured by
the roaring of the Evangelions outside, Commander Ikari replied.

"It has Sam. Suit up. We don't have much time."

The entire compound shook, as if to underscore the commanders point.

...

One of the jet black Evas pointed its massive tuningfork shaped weapon at
the ground, targeting one of the perimeter defense stations. At the
emplacement fired hundreds of autocannon rounds at it, a high pitch shreak
filled the air, rising to an almost deafening pitch. Moments later, a ball
of incandescent energy shot from the Evas weapon, the resulting shockwave
from the impact reducing much of the surrounding landscape to ash.

Eleven more Evas descended from the heavens, like demons from an old bible
story, carried by jet black bat wings.

...

Shinji turned to one of the techs the moment Sam had left the control
bunker. "Prepare the class 3 Evangelions for launch. It seems that our
cadets are about to have their first combat experience."
