'King for a Day' was written and performed by Green Day


King for a Day

[The camera opens up on a small boy who is standing with his
hands behind his back. He is dressed in blue overalls and has
very short brown hair.]
%Started at the age of four%
[A woman's legs can be seen passing by the boy. The boy waits
for a while and then walks off screen]
%My mother went to the grocery store%
[The camera cuts to a bedroom. The door to the bedroom opens
and the boy walks into the room. He runs over to the chest of drawers
on the other side of the room and begins to rummage through various
women's underclothes]
%Went sneaking through her bedroom door to find something in
a size four%
[The camera cuts to the boy who is now nearly thirteen years old. His hair
has grown a lot longer and he is  wearing a yellow sundress and is standing
in front of a mirror looking at himself]
%Sugar and spice and everything nice wasn't made only for girls%
[The camera cuts to the boy getting beat up in a playground by a
bunch of other boys while still wearing the dress.]
%GI Joe in panty hose is making room for the one and only%
[The camera cuts to the boy's room where he is looking at the bruises on his
body in a mirror. He is only wearing a stuffed bra and a skirt as he puts
band aids on his back]

[The camera cuts to the boy walking towards school wearing an orange skirt
and a shirt with pink frills on it. The boy stops as there
is there is a group of boys standing in front of the school waiting
for him.]
%Just wait 'till all the guys get  a load of me.%
[The camera cuts to the boy who looks a bit older and very unhappy. He has
his hair tied in a pony tail and is wearing a pair of pants and a shirt. He
is scowling as a man sitting in a chair next to him shouts and waves his
arms as a man another man sits and takes notes.]
%My daddy threw me in therapy. He thinks I'm not a real man.%
[The camera cuts to the boy as he looks at himself in the mirror while
wearing a dress. He sighs to himself and walks over to his bed.]
%Who put the drag in the drag queen?%
%Don't knock it until you've tried it.%
[The camera cuts to the boy who is walking toward his high school while
wearing a green sundress. There are several boys waiting for
him at the gates of the school.]
%Sugar and spice and everything nice wasn't made for only girls.%
[The boys are about to attack him when another boy dressed in a school
uniform jumped in front of them.]
%GI Joe in panty hose is making room for the one and only%
[The new boy beats the other boys to a bloody pulp with a giant spatula.]
%King for a day, princess by dawn.%
[The new boy walks over to the boy in the dress. He introduces himself and
sticks out his hand.]
%King for a day, in a leather thong.%
[The boy in the dress shakes the new boy's hand and his eyes glaze over.]
%King for a day. princess by dawn.%
[The camera cuts to a coke machine chasing the new boy around town.]
%Just wait 'till all the guys get a load of me.%
[The camera cuts to the boy wearing a female school uniform  being shown
that the new boy was actually a girl by another girl in an Okonomiyaki
shop.]
%Sugar and spice and everything nice wasn't made for only girls.%
[The camera cuts to the boy standing in a bathroom with a pig-tailed
boy who is staring at him. The boy is wearing boxers and a t-shirt and the
pig-tailed boy is obviously very surprised and angry.]
%GI Joe in Pantyhose is making room for the one and only.%
[The camera cuts to the boy's room as the door opens and he walks in
battered and bruised once again.]
%King for a day, princess by dawn.%

[The boy goes into his closet and pulls out a yellow sundress.]
%King for a day, princess by dawn.%

[The boy puts on the dress and looks at himself in the mirror]
%King for a day, princess by dawn.%

[The boy twirls the dress and examines himself closely.]
%King for a day, princess by dawn.%
[The boy smiles to himself.]

[The boy turns off the light to the room leaving us in darkness.]
