On the other hand, this IS how Ranma was trained by his father, (something
he should probably mention to his two "students"), but I don't recall Genma
displaying such raw contempt as Ranma seems to here. Perhaps this isn't the
author's intention, but if it isn't, we, the readers, need some indication
of this, perhaps another paragraph of Ranma's thoughts sometime after the
bee incident?
I wasn't bothered by Ranma's behavior in this chapter (and I'm a pretty
pro-Ranma guy). I read it not as contempt but as a kind of inability to
empathize with people who are less skilled. Like "I can do this, so why
can't they?" Furthermore, the whole trio is going through an exhausting
ordeal, and that sort of thing can make tempers flare. Finally, it was
mentioned that Ranma is doing some sort of mysterious training, and that
might well be influencing his behavior.
The one thing that did strike me as a little off was Ukyo chastizing
Ranma for his part in the P-chan coverup. I'm not quite sure why, but it
just doesn't seem right for her to be openly blaming Ranma. Even if she
thought he was at fault, I don't think she'd tell him so, for fear of
blowing whatever chance she has at being eventually chosen by him. I'm
not sure if Ryoga sleeping with Akane would outrage her either. I could
be wrong, and of course the stress that the group is currently under
might explain it too.
In any case, I'm glad to see that this story is still being written, and
hope to see more of it as soon as possible.
