Right!
As was pointed out by someone, the Series it was fused with was Rogue
Trooper, a series onto its second incarnation. Basically, you've got a
world which has been the meeting point for two armies. It's a global,
declared, unlimited conflict- nukes, chem, bioweapons, all kinds of
weaponry, experimental and downright deadly.
Then one side came up with Gengineered soldiers. In the first
incarnation, the troops were dropped into a trap, set up by a traitor
general. In the second, they were sent into a no-win situation to test
whateher the design was right. They took the hill, defended against
first men, then armour, then experimental GI's (Genetic Infantry) and
only one survived.
The biochips come about from different sources in the different
incarnations... but the idea is that it stores the memories, experience
and personality of a GI, so they can be downloaded either into a new
body, OR fixed into a piece of equipment. In this case, the other GI's
were killed, and Gourry is now Lina's gun. This is simply because in the
'new' Rogue, his rifle biochip was a little screwy. The biochipping went
wrong. Now he wants to get home to mummy, has a Winnie-the-pooh
fixation, and sulks at times. He's also an expert shot. Fixed into the
gun, he can autofire, change ammo at will, and initiate self-cleaning.
Gourry is a bit dense, but fits the bill.
Well, I think I'll get on with it!
