Gah. And the Terrans without reliable flame-throwers or laser or nuclear
technology. (Cloaked Ghosts with a Defensive Matrix and an escort of several
dozen Marines and Archons. Nukes. The Overmind. Worked for me.)
Of course, since you're introducing the Zerg now, there are other
opportunities for divergence as well. Perhaps...

It was a warm and sunny day. Not a single cloud marred the sky, nor did
a dark spot mar Ukyo's mood. Ranma had called her "pretty"! Never mind
that it sounded like he had been trying to say, "You're pretty good,"
which Akane had silenced in the middle of "good" in her usual manner.
Ukyo felt herself ready to burst out into song, and almost felt like she
was walking on air.
Wait...
She *was* walking on air, and walking fast, too. Something bound her
arms to her side and lifted her up, but when she looked around, she
saw nothing. Before she could do anything useful, she was outside of
Nermia, then outside of Tokyo, going so fast the wind tore at her
exposed flesh, the air passing by too quickly to get enough breath to
scream, her lungs burning from an inability to breathe until she knew
she would suffocate...
...and then it stopped.
Blinking back tears that had protected her eyes from the wind, she
examined her new surroundings, and nearly burst into tears again. She
had been set down on a clearing overlooking her home town...a place she
had vowed never to return to again, at least not without Ranma. Another
town had sprung up nearby, probably recently judging by the post-modern
looks of the buildings.
A distortion passed around her, and she was free. Looking around, she
saw a futuristic looking plane shimmer into view, reel in a lasso that
she realized had been her restraint, and land.
Discounting the wierdness and high tech factors, Ukyou drew her battle
spatula and marched towards the plane's landing point. Kidnapping was
kidnapping, and someone had just kidnapped her.
Sure enough, the plane's cockpit opened, and out jumped a man. Patches
of gray gave his short beard a distinguished look, but his jacket and
his face marked him as American. She even recognized what looked like
an ancient American flag on the jet - a red square with crossed bars of
stars - although she thought that flag had not been used in over a
century. The flag was small and repeated, almost as if it were a kill
marker of some kind.
It was the look on his face that stayed her attack. He knew her, that
much Ukyou could tell. The rest seemed to be lost in a flood of
emotions.
"Grindmaw?"
Ukyou blinked. His language almost sounded like English, but heavily
accented. Even so, she replied with what she knew of the tongue. "Who
are you, and why am I here?"
The man visibly strained to process her words. "Ahm sarr...ahem. I'm
sorry. To me, you've been dead for over twenty years. You told me you
met me in the past, but I'd just about given up hope of seeing my family
again."
"Do I know you?"
"Not yet, and you won't for another three hundred and fifty years."
Ukyo blinked. "You're from the future, aren't you? How did I live over
three centuries? And how did I die?"
"That's right, you get implants to extend your life about forty years
from now, and you told me not to tell you how or when you died. My name
is Jim Raynor. I'm your grandson. I've come to keep history on track,
like you told me I did...which includes keeping you from marrying
Ranma."
She never noticed that the nearby town had lifted off and begun to move
towards her...

<shrugs> Hey, if the Zerg and the Protoss are here, then considering
that every Terran in Starcraft is a descendant of someone who was kicked
off of Earth for the "crime" of being augmented, ostensibly never to
return...
This was too much to resist, especially considering that the Protoss run on
what they call Psi...
Oh, and Ranma's little blast to the probe damaged it so it won't be calling
in any more Protoss structures, aside from perhaps another pylon or two. It
also can't call in Protoss warriors, but it can call in their armaments...
an image of Ranma and Akane in Zealot power suits came to mind.
I wonder if Akane would rework the weapons so, instead of psi blades,
she gets a psi mallet?
