if he wasn't a teenager anyway, and superior officers would just refer
to him by his family name _maybe_ with a -san.}

Interesting, since the character in question is Futaba Aoi, a
cross-dressing police officer and resident character of Taiho Shichauzo
(You're Under Arrest)....  I've never seen Aoi ever referred to as
"Shimeru" in the series, and having as much of the tv series as I do, I
should know (with an accent on the 'should').

Aoi is also referred to, on occasion, as Futaba-kun, by those who don't
know him very well (such as Arizuka would) and Aoi-chan by other members of
the Bokutoo precinct.
