As much as I like searching the web for new authors and new fanfiction web
pages, I often avoid going to pages in Geocities. Why? Because my computer
is ancient, and the pop-up advertisements at geocities slow my processor
down signigicantly. I don't have time to fight with a second browser window
opening when it already takes me three times as long as it should to get to
a good story.

Ms. Thatcher, there's an even simpler way for people who have Win95 on
their machines. Download Close_popup from
http://www.completelyfreesoftware.com/

This program, which is small (only 12 K) runs in the system tray of Win95
machines and can detect and _automatically_ close pop-up adds from
GeoCities and several other free web site services, including xoom and a
few others that escape my memory at the moment.

In addition, there are several other programs similar to this over at
winfiles.com, all of which monitor your machine for popup ads and kill them
with no effort on your part.
