Well, Mark, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. (Welcome to the
club!!)
I'm not really sure why you're bringing it up on the FFML when Slash
didn't post it here but considering how ticked I was when Minako Warrior
Princess Sidekick got toasted, I don't blame you for wanting to vent,
and for prepping people for the venting.
It's a shame really. I guess you have to look at it this way: some minds
are so small that all they can do is become so envious of something
beyond them that it frightens them and they have to lash out, like a
cornered animal. Of course the threat they're lashing at is all in their
minds but they can't help themselves and attack people just because they
don't like their ideas.
Talking about *preventing* MSTing on the FFML a few months ago previous
brought up an important point of note: according to the FAQ of Mistings,
it is ettiquette to secure the author's permission. As I then pointed
out after quoting from the dictionary, a MST does NOT meet the
definition of either a parody or a critical review. Since a MST requires
incorporation of 100% of another work, it an act of ***plagarism*** and
unfortunately it may be used to insult and attack the author of that
work at the same time. Hence, the essentiality of securing permission.
Someone nearly flamed me for taking this stand previously because they
said it was "prohibiting line by line criticism." This is untrue; a LBL
is merely a repost of a work submitted (to the FFML or its like,
assumably) with personal comments interjected for discussion purposes.
It does not use the pretense of being a work in its own right. And after
all, that's how MSTs are billed, isn't it? AS MSTs. You don't see "Sam's
archive of comments on first drafts done in a somewhat MST3K style" do
you?
I DO think some MSTs can make a story into a funny piece -- whether is
was originally supposed to be or not -- but this isn't one of those
cases. Personally, if someone wants to rip on every line of one of my
stories because they think the story's bad, they're welcome to -- as
(prose) criticism mailed to me directly. Or in a review ("I think this
story is just really bad and I'd recommend you skip it.") But I'm
digressing here; back to your current situation.
The website you gave a URL seems to be Tenchi's Vault of MSTings with a
facelift, now called "Shinji's." I don't see the submission guidelines
it used to have -- however I **distinctly** remember one of its stated
requirements was to secure author permission first. I didn't find out
about these requirements until almost my entire story had been MSTed or
I would have asked for it to be removed from the site-- however yours is
new. Send "Shinji" a note that the MST was unauthorized and request it
to be pulled. You are MORE than within your rights. You will actually be
doing "Slash" a favor--from the little bit I made myself read just now,
his comments only serve to showcase his own ignorance.

*Noticed his own MWPS story was removed from the MST archive.
Guess that MSTer meant the apology he gave afterwards.*
