On a distant mountain side two strange 
figures watched the proceedings. Two girls, 
dressed in robes much too open for the cold,
stared down upon the men below. Both were pale of
face and hair. They wore strange jewelry, 
reminiscent of armor. One turned to the other
and their red eyes made contact.

"And so it begins."said Kosh, out of his encounter suit and looking quite
effeminate.
"Say," asked Uklesh, "aren't you dead?  And..aren't we supposed to be in the
far, far future?"
"Time is perception," responded the female, human Kosh.
"Oh, come off it.  Nobody can hear us, so you don't need be cryptic on *my*
account."
"Oh...good point."
"So, you didn't answer my question, what the hell are we doing here?" Uklesh
sounded quite exasperated, and was starting to feel the chill.  Being material
sucked.  Although the body certainly was cute .... in an aesthetic way, of
course. 
"Oh, you know...when these people need someone to make cryptic comments that
nobody understands, we have to be the ones making it," stated Kosh.
"...Oh.  You mean like how Death always shows up when those dramatic principal
characters die?"
"Yeah."
"We're the anthropomorphication of cryptic statements?  Is that what you're
saying?"
"Well....more me than you, really.  But it called for two 'people' and you
were the closest one available, so..."
"...Well, I just feel used.  Like some sort of cheap plot device."
"You get used to it after a while."
"Really?"
"Nah."
"That's depressing."
"Such is life."
"Stop that."
"Sorry.  Couldn't resist."
