Ah! So that's what's been bothering me. Sure, running around in an EVA
seems cool, but from the descriptions given on the ffml, what's to
functionally separate an EVA from a tank during a war?

Lots, actually. As the Russians demonstrated with the Germans at
Stalingrad, tanks tend to get mauled by infantry while fighing in
cities. Following this author's premise, with EVAs running on
power cables, you'd be confined to defensive city fights.

Huge mobile power generators are NOT an option. Unless you had miles
of cable, a single dive bomber or artillery piece could take it out.
(deploying AA that close to the front is just asking for it...)

Someone would have to drastically up the tech levels for one side, for
building walkers for combat to even be feasible.

Obviously they couldn't build effective weapons of this style back then.
Otherwise, they would've. The whole proposition needs to work off the
idea that there were MAJOR technological break throughs...

As someone pointed out, "What's to stop a clever infantryman from
chopping the cable." Same thing that has the Angles attacking the
EVAs instead of their cables. Stupid plot devices. In effect, the
most efficient attack that an Angle could have performed would be to
snap the cables until the EVAs ran out of them. Simple.

If you want to follow that line of thought though, obviously such a
walker would have to act with close infantry support. This is a city
fighter, and due to its size, wouldn't be able to storm a building without
causing massive damage to the building and itself. There's also a quite
nasty but viable alternative. HUGE flamers. After all, a city fighter
won't be facing tanks...

Anyway, I'll outline my own objections.

Because I think huge mobile generators are stupid ideas, this thing
would be confined to defensive city fighting. Though Germany was
doing a lot of this towards the end of the war, Hitler's mental
state was of such that building a purely defensive weapon would have
been out of the question.

Somebody also pointed out that one of the reasons the Germans lost
was because they ran out of fuel. This is partially true. They lost
most of their capacity for producing low grade fuel due to allied
bombing. They still retained a good degree of high grade synthetic
fuel production near the end. Germany lost its last major oil fields
when the Russians cut them off from Rumania, so they still had a source
of oil fairly close to the end...

Anyway, as with most anime and fanfics, just ignore the logistics.
It never really makes any sense anyways. (Right. An inter-
atmospheric-transformable fighter. Uh huh. Let me explain to
you exactly why the thing cannot fly...)
