Thank you Uncle Fester for a good report on the con.  A copy should should
be sent to the con organizers.  Next year, they should deliberately plan
for overlap with the Sakura festival and encourage con goers to attend.  

As far as the selection of anime for the showings, I suspect that cons tend
to show only commercial stuff both to avoid legal hassles and because
company reps for the commercial distributors are often present as well at
cons.  Even when fansubs are series that are not yet in commercial
distribution, they are a legal grey area and commercial distributors don't
want to be publicly associated with them.
